Schedule Breakdown: Marshall
Today, let's talk Marshall. The Herd need to replace their QB, but bring back a very strong defense. The O-line may be young, but if they can come together, Marshall could make a run at the eastern title.

Which games do you feel they will win, and which should they lose? What is the logic for your predictions?

Here is the schedule with my predictions. C-USA fans, I look forward to reading your thoughts.

W- @Miami OH (Good road OOC win)
W- Eastern Kentucky (Easy FCS win)
L- @South Carolina (One of the better SEC teams this season)
L- NC State (One of the better ACC teams this season)
W- @WKU (Marshall gets back on track)
L- Middle Tennessee (Stock beats the Marshall defense)
W- @ODU (Keeps the Herd in the hunt)
L- FAU (No chance at the east after this loss)
W- @Southern Miss (USM looks to have QB issues)
W- Charlotte (Easy win for bowl eligibility)
W- UTSA (Runners don't have enough offense)
L- @FIU (FIU needs this one and gets it)

RE: Schedule Breakdown: Marshall
Joe, I usually agree with most of what to say, but I disagree on a couple of games here. I give Marshall a 60% chance of beating MTSU. It’s no guarantee Marshall will win, but I’m leaning towards Marshall being better than MTSU. I give them a 30% chance of beating FAU (RIP Marshall). I think they will destroy FIU though. They are the only other team that can win the East imo. I give them a 25% chance of winning the east (FAU 75%).

Hm...

So we'll drop 3 games at home this year, and still come away with a winning record?

That hasn't happened in a long time.

In fact, even with our bad teams, we have never dropped below the 3-3 mark.

With one of most experienced teams since the 2014 squad?

It's clear you don't watch Marshall.

RE: Schedule Breakdown: Marshall
Explain "the o-line may be young, but if they can come together..."

It's a line that gave up only 11 sacks last year, best in CUSA...with all 5 returning starters!

I agree with the FIU game. It's a road matchup, plain and simple. Tough opponent.

CUSA Championship at home. We beat the ever loving piss out of whoever the West sends our way. Business as usual for the East.

IF the oline can come together? Lol. They were a damn good group last season, and all of them are back. We may have tbe best Oline in the conference.

You really should do more research if you are going to do these threads, you're just pulling stuff out of your ass.

That being said, I think we lose south carolina, beat Nc State at home, and we will beat FAU, we lost by 5 and had 4 turnovers on the road last season. But we will drop a wtf game in conference somewhere.

Joe, I think you greatly underestimate Marshall, who I see as going undefeated in conference play.

W- @Miami OH (Good road OOC win - yep)
W- Eastern Kentucky (Easy FCS win - yep)
L- @South Carolina (One of the better SEC teams this season - yep)
L- NC State (One of the better ACC teams this season - yep)
W- @WKU (Marshall gets back on track - yep)
W- Middle Tennessee (The Herd puts a hurt on Stock and his Raiders)
W- @ODU (Keeps the Herd in the hunt - yep, but it will be a battle)
W- FAU (The Owls try, but they cannot steal this one at the Joan)
W- @Southern Miss (USM looks to have QB issues - yep and the Herd is a better team)
W- Charlotte (Easy win to remain undefeated in C-USA - yep)
W- UTSA (Runners don't have enough offense - yep)
W- @FIU (The Herd completes conference play without a loss against a fading FIU)

The Herd wins the conference game and its bowl game to finish 12-2.

I just think Joe greatly underestimates the value of Marshall home games.

It’s not a trend. We’re just not the same team on the road.

I do think we’re vulnerable to a road loss or two.

I think this whole thing should start and end with one game - FAU @ Marshall. This game will (ok, "should") decide the division and, perhaps, the conference.

I think Marshall has a chance to beat NC State and the game against FAU will decide the East. They should handle MT at home.

RE: Schedule Breakdown: Marshall
Clearly Joe's analysis is about as thought through as that click bait thread from CSJ-Kent last week.

We return our entire offense save Yurachek and a turnover prone qb (Litton).
Green is imho is already a better qb than Erase (sic) Litton. More versatile like Cato.
Our O line is probably the best in CUSA and is not young (all are experienced and started last year and that goes for the reserves as well. It's basically a rotation.
Receiving corps and running back stable all return (2 800+ yard rushers in King and Davis)
Defense is better than last year.

That being said, my heart says we go 8-0 in conference. My optimistic side says we go 7-1 losing to USM but getting ththe tiebreaker over FAU. My money says we beat FAU but trip up against FIU and USM on the road and finish second.

That's big leap for someone that has little game experience, I've seen many practice star QB's, game situations totally different.

Their is a point to be made for not having a QB with any experience despite what Marshall fans think about a practice star

I take it you don't understand or even know that Marshall has an .848 winning percentage in Joan C Edwards stadium. And losing 3 games at home has only happened once since the stadium opened in 1991. Also we have more seasons we have been undefeated at home than 3-3.

And where do you get a young OLine, do your homework why don't ya, everyone will be at least a redshirt Sophomore, that means they will have had at least 3 spring and fall camps and 3 years with SC coach under them and a year of playing experience. The defense returns all but 2 starters and adds Darius Hodge (#7 LB 2017) and Koby Cumberlander (#11 WDE 2017) to the mix.

If there is a weak spot in this armor it will be trying to replace Kaare Vedvik. But we have some capable kickers and punters on the squad, just unproven yet.

I also look for Tyree Brady and Ryan Bee to be household names nationwide this year not just in the conference. And for Obi Obialo (WR) to be the breakout player of this team.

You know just as much about Marshall as I know about North Texas. And the only thing I know about North Texas is that Marshall knocked them off in the 1988 IAA playoffs and for the most part you usually suck each year.

Well, he's going against our 1's so there's that. And I've seen every qb "practice star" since Pennington. I believe I have a pretty good feel of how he'll fare.

Marshall has to break in a new QB and a new OC. No way they don't have some growing pains and lose a few conference games.
