The Vandy and Wake Forests of the world would have a full line-card for sure. The P5 need us and they need us to not be very good.

Bama fans would scream from the rooftops for a formal break with the "G5". Bank on it.

Interesting article and interviews by an ESPN P5 writer.

John Swofford and the ACC don’t want to expand the playoff to include a team like UCF. Or Boise back in the day, or Utah, TCU back in the day. Imagine that!....lol
All those teams should’ve had a shot.
The current system is a joke and just another BCS designed to keep the fat cat conferences controlling everything. Who gets in the “playoff” and who gets the money.
Yep. Swofford is a Hole and worse yet, a Hole attorney. He's of the smarmiest and lowest variety of life there is. None of us will live long enough to ever hear anything close to fairness utter from a Hole's mouth.

Never. Alabama wouldn't be able to schedule their 10 home games every year without us G5.

Interesting that the former Boise AD sounded supportive. Behind Bama fans, Boise fans seem the second most offended by UCF's national championship.

We watched the Peach Bowl and he kept saying "why do they keep talking about Auburn and not they other team." He probably doesn't know who UCF is, but now he keeps bringing up how the power 5 is a bunch of crap, designed to get all the money and keep other teams from competing.
I think most of the posters here are too young to really remember the pre-BCS era. I grew up in Big 8 country and near SWC territory and when teams from those conferences scheduled football games against ACC teams the fan reaction was typically “couldn’t they get anyone better?” Back then scheduling UNC or Clemson was only a step above scheduling Slippery Rock.

Boise fans are just jealous that their ADs never had the foresight to do this.
I'm really curious what the next undefeated, CFP shunned, team does.

Until the NCAA steps in and declares a Champion they can do whatever they want.

This is just wishful thinking.
What is the upside for the P5/ESPN to putting UCF in? Will it increase ratings markedly? Even if UCF got blown out, would it supply ammo to close the door forever? We've seen plenty of wildly lopsided "playoff" games in its short existence.
What's the downside? If a G5 even keeps a playoff game close, it shatters the illusion they've spent so much time/money creating. The precedent that a G5 is eligible for the CFP would drive recruiting up for top tier G5s.
A playoff win? That could cost ESPN dearly on the next TV rights deal.
No... this isn't happening.
Eventually, I feel like the P5 will split from FBS.
I just hope UCF gets picked up in expansion before they figure that out.
I think if the P5 were going to split, they would have done so by now. Why go through the trouble of making a CFP "that includes everyone" but really design it so it only includes the P5, if they intended to split off anyway?
If the P5 split, they know they'll lose in court to the mountain of lawsuits coming from every program left behind, likely spearheaded by the AAC.
I think the reason is hoping that the G5 chooses to split on their own, saving the P5 the lawsuits. If they make it impossible to get in... their hope is that the G5 forms their own playoff and does it for them... freeing the P5 from any "wrong doing", b/c the G5 decided on their own to do their own thing.

Saban say he would like to break, but Bama always plays 1 or 2 per year and sometimes even an 1aa
