It amazes me how much money Texas has yet struggles so much academically. Doesn’t UT have the largest endowment of any public institution? Why do they lack behind so many west coast schools

University of South Florida = 201-300 [70-95th in the US]
Temple University = 301-400 [96-117th in the US]
University of Central Florida = 301-400 [96-117th in the US]
University of Cincinnati = 301-400 [96-117th in the US]
University of Connecticut = 301-400 [96-117th in the US]
Tulane University = 601-700
Southern Methodist University = 701-800
University of Memphis = 901-1000

Didn't see ECU, USNA, Tulsa or Wichita State listed

I generally don't pay much attention to these type rankings and I dont care to get more informed on the metrics, but I have a hard believing UH is higher ranked than schools like SMU, Tulane, BC and even Temple.

I know we've come along way since I graduated in 93.

Differences in criteria make all the difference. In the USNWR rankings, "peer assessment" is a big category (22.5%) is very subjective. Grad rates and retention rates (22.5%) are a big category as well---and we didnt really score well there until recently. We should start seeing a significant climb in the USNWR ranking as the UH grad rates and retention rates have improved significantly with the "UH in 4" plan. None the less, it will still take some time to really see the improvement as the grad rate is a 6 year rolling average.

Its a top 10 ranked public university in the US in this ranking if you count the California system as one.

Every ranking system is flawed in some way. Everyone touts the ranking system in which they score the highest.

Tis life and collegiate rankings.

I am surprised Yale is "only" in 12th place.

I also noticed that no US military academies are listed which is puzzling and nonsensical.

ARWU is not an undergrad ranking. And nothing about it is subjective. It's an objective research ranking. The methodology, outlined below, is much closer to what the American Association of University uses than, say, the USNWR.

ARWU uses six objective indicators to rank world universities, including the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, number of highly cited researchers selected by Clarivate Analytics, number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science, number of articles indexed in Science Citation Index - Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, and per capita performance of a university.

Dude this ranking has a huge bias to larger universities. Look at the rankings they’re a joke.

Not a joke. Biased towards research universities. Which is what they are trying to measure.

No, biased towards Science Research universities. 4 of the six criteria have to do with research in scientific fields. The majority of college students are not majoring in a science. The ranking is silly.

“What they are trying to measure” is clearly an academic ranking of world universities. Their academic ranking sucks.

Their inability to be more selective (top 10% rule) brings them down a bit in these rankings, but they hardly "struggle". They just passed Georgetown to enter the T14.
