I would say the most impressive results I saw yesterday were:

1) Maryland beating Texas. Maryland's football program is in complete disarray and yet somehow the team pulled together and put out a hell of an effort to beat Texas.

2) Cincinatti beating UCLA. That's a LONG road trip, and UCLA jumped on Cincy early. But Cincy did the opposite of folding, they got stronger as the game wore on and won decisively.

3) Villanova beating Temple. FCS beats FBS, and in a home town grudge match!

4) Notre Dame beating Michigan. Harbaugh needed this game in the worst way, But the irish were in control start to finish.

5) Boise beating Troy. Again, a LONG road trip, and to a Troy team that is always pretty good. Boise wiped them out.

Butler beat Bo Pelini and the Youngstown Penguins? Wow.

Most impressive MAC team was Kent State in its head coach’s debut.

UTEP losing to Northern Arizona by 20. They might break FBS longest losing atreak next year.

Another year, another overrated Texas team in September. TCU is the class of that state.

Texas has a mediocre quarterback. Until they improve in that position expect more of the same.

Cheers to Nevada for blowing out a FCS team this year and not lose like last year.
Jeers was to SJSU for losing to a FCS team and for the head coach Brent Brennan for putting the best QB Aaron as a 3rd string.

Looks like the FCS did better vs the G5 this week than the G5 did vs the P5.

Maybe the G5 need to give FCS more opportunities. 07-coffee3

Well, since Troy crushed App State head to head, most would regard Troy as the real champ.

I wonder, though, was App State officially eligible for the G5 Access slot?

Troy didn't play App State in 2017. So WTF you talkin' about.

I get my jimmys rustled with Troy and stAte vs. AppSt talk.

They've been the best rivals one could hope for in a new conference. I couldn't imagine moving to a new conference without those two (plus GaSo) with us.

I swear, I wish you'd just pack it in and stop posting because among many other things of which I could name, giving Marshall a jeer is outright dumb.

Let's see:

Road game
Miami's homecoming game
Projected contender for the MAC and bowl team
Freshman QB
New OC
New DC
Missing our top DL (Ryan Bee)

And we still won the game (and at one point were up by 21 against a veteran OL, QB, and WR). But, it's a good thing that no one takes you even the least bit seriously.

RE: Cheers And Jeers For Week 1
My cheer goes to Nicholls State who beat P5 Kansas at home.

I hadn't even heard of Nicholls State until about 15 years ago, and my recollection was that they were a pushover in the Southland Conference. In 2014 they went 0-12. Then current coach Tim Rebowe was hired. Last year they got into the FCS playoffs. Today they are rated #10 in FCS. Next week they are at Tulane. I'll be interested to see the results of that game. Congrats Colonels.

Honorable mention: non-scholarship Butler knocking off #25 Bo Pelini coached Youngstown.

My jeer goes to the state of Kansas.

South Dakota almost beat Kansas State at home. What! South Dakota had been one of the weaker teams in the Missouri Valley Conference. But it looks like they got it goin on now. Coach Bob Nielson was successful in d3 and d2 (2 nattys), but was only so-so at Western Illinois in the MVC. It's turning out to be a genius hire by USD AD. (Finished last year ranked #16) Go Coyotes!

Marshall gets the jeer for who they almost lost to. A team that is in the bottom tier of FBS like the last ten teams as a weak team. Marshall should have run up the score on Miami Ohio.

Big cheer for Appalachian State for nearly dumping #10 Penn State at home !!

Did Penn State look past Appy? (They've got Pitt this weekend.)
Does Penn State have weaknesses? Is Appy that good?
Is the Sun Belt becoming the P7 Conference??? 05-duck

It will be interesting to see.

I heard on from a broadcast announcer that App State was the second youngest team in at least the FBS. If that is true, what a future they will have.

How did Marshall "almost lost to" a team they lead the entire game. A Miami TD with 3.5 minutes left made the score appear close. The final score only tells who won, it doesn't really tell the full story of the game itself.

Why would you give jeers to Rice when they came in as a four TD underdog and were leading into the middle of the 3rd quarter before they ran out of gas?

Marshall held a > 98% win percentage for nearly 52 minutes in the game. That's not an "almost lost to" scenario... lol.
