it depends on how much you're willing to spend...

UAB's Head Coach looks like he would be an outstanding hire except that he already makes 900k plus bonuses...can ECU offer enough to get his attention?

on the flip side Blake Anderson from Ark State only makes 750k and his buyout drops to 500k if ECU waits until Jan 2019...he's done all he can do at Arky State.

I really like both of those guys as well. Always been impressed with Clark at UAB. We could give him a raise from 900k but probably not a huge one, I'm speculating but I would think the max we could do initially is in the 1.5 million range so I'm not sure if that would be enough.

I also like Houston from JMU. After Coach Mo, I'm really hoping we go with a guy that has head coaching experience, no learning on the job and has a specific vision with what he wants to do with the program.

So let's look at this the right way - from AD down.

Short list for AD:
Jeff Barber - ECU grad and former assistant AD. Associate AD at S. Carolina, AD at Liberty and now at Charleston Southern. 60 years old.
Doug Gillin - App State AD, former deputy AD at Missouri, vice president at ISP sports. 61 years old.
Lee Workman - current acting Chief Operating Officer for athletic department @ ECU.

Head Coaching List:
Les Miles - swing for the fences but not happening.
Craig Bohl - Wyoming HC
Chris Klieman - NDSU HC
Turner Gill - Liberty HC
Brent Venables - Clemson DC
Kendal Briles - UH OC
Sonny Cumbie - TCU OC

Can't imagine why you'd even look at Gill. One big name win and pounding a very bad ODU. Beyond that, barely over .500

I'm sure brent venables will jump at the opportunity to take a 30-40% paycut 01-wingedeagle

Can anyone tell me why our internet fans are so opposed to Workman being the AD?

There will be more money available for a decent hire than any other time at ECU. ECU just spent $50 million on a stadium, $8-10 million for a HC over 5 years shouldn't be out of the question. It's pretty much now or never. Venables doesn't have a buyout in his contract if he takes a HC job so that makes it a little easier. He might would take a slight pay cut for his first HC position.

I'm not sure how old he is, that may be part of it. Other side of the coin might have been his position on the Compher hire and Ruff firing. I don't remember hearing where he stood on either, but those are two issue that seem to cause the most division among ECU fans and donors over the past 15 years or so.

Venables is making $2.32M. He isn't leaving for anything other than a top 25 job.

Probably not, but he damned well better get a phone call if ECU can offer anywhere close to that.

Well, he's not going to leave for equal money, and I can't see ECU dropping $2.5M+ a year on a HC.

Venables is a dumb name to mention for all kinds of reasons. He’s not leaving to take a paycut, I don’t think ECU can afford to spend 2.5 million for a HC, and if we could I’m not spending that on a guy who’s never been a coach I’ll go hire some G4 coach with a track record.

I get the feeling they are going to let Scotty have another year but make him change OC's.

If we get to 5 wins I’m not against that. 4 or less and you absolutely can’t do that.

ECU can't offer anywhere close to that and would be foolish to do so. If he's such a hot commodity he'd already be getting offers from those that can afford it. He'd be a fool to take a head coaching job as long as he's making that kind of money at a place that will spend crazy money to win big.

Thats what I've been saying all along. Mo is not going to be fired this year. Peterson is going to be the sacrificial lamb used to appease the admins. He his going to find a OC that is going to be of a similar standard to Blackwell. Now if we have the same results next season then yea he is gone. He is not going to have anybody else to be his cup bearer.

With a promise of getting rid of Peterson and getting a new OC, I think he is safe even with 4.

I could be dead wrong on this, but I’ll be stunned if he’s back with 4, especially if there are anymore beatings like that Temple game. Maybe if we are uber competitive in every game going forward and just come up short but it’s obvious we are close then maybe, but 1 of 2 more of those type losses, especially at home, will be the end. It’s a reseating year next year along with the opening of the stadium renovation, you can’t afford to have season ticket sales drop another couple of thousand.

With the new stadium expansion, ECU almost has to bring in a new coach to revitalize the base. It would be a monumental mistake to brink Mo back after another losing season. Spend the money, make a solid hire and re-energize the fanbase. It's going to be a pathetic crowd on hand for Charleston Southern if Mo is the head coach.

Mo said they would be in a bowl game. He's 4 losses away from having fired himself and with the way the team is playing he's done by Thanksgiving.
