RE: 2018 Top Rated College Football games
i saw Oklahoma/Texas got a 6.8 overnight rating. 10.3 million I'd estimate... Highest Big 12 game since 2009 title game with Texas/Nebraska.
Ohio St/Northwestern got a 5.6 overnight rating. 8.5 million I'd estimate

Not surprising as it was just about a perfect matchup in terms of blue bloods, rankings, and implications.
guessing 7 years ago- would be Alabama/LSU regular season game then???
Yes, CBS said the Georgia - Alabama game drew a 10.52 rating, the best rating for a non-bowl game since the 2011 LSU - Alabama regular season game, which drew an 11.9 rating.
It was the best SECCG rating since Alabama vs Florida 2009, which drew an 11.8. Both of those teams were undefeated with the winner going to the BCS title game.

The B1G title game drew 8.27 million viewers, the ACC title game drew 4.37 million viewers.

The big surprise is Ohio St/TCU. That game ultimately meant nothing.

When the smoke finally cleared, ND had two of the top ten games and more than three entire conferences.

Got 1 game left, Army/Navy. That could easily surpass the #10 game of the year.....

Last year's Army Navy numbers would slide in at #8 and bump #10.
But don't worry - omitted them last year.

You just can't get good ratings on ESPNU. Even ESPN2 is tough. I was at Buffalo Wild Wings for a game and they must have 35-40 TVs but not a single one was on ESPNU when I walked in. Great exposure there. Sorry, I'm done with my MACtion rant now. Carry on.

Bigger problem for ESPN U is that ESPN and ESPN 2 are on most basic cable packages. A lot of people don't pay the extra coin to upgrade to the sports package to include ESPN U (ESPN News as well).

Yeah, but Army's ranked this year + it's the only game on during the whole week.

TCU was pretty highly rated at the time. And they had Ohio St. in trouble.
Its just that TCU's new QB couldn't quit fumbling and throwing interceptions. If not for his turnovers, TCU probably beats both Ohio St. and Texas.

Looking at your top 15 (AL-A&M and UT-OU were the previous ones knocked off):
Ohio St. 5
Alabama 4
Michigan 2
Notre Dame 2
Georgia 2
LSU 2
Oklahoma 2
Texas 2
All others 9
All the games and 70% of the teams involved 8 programs. And 60% of the games involved either Alabama or Ohio St.

Those ratings mean that when their next contract for OTA games is negotiated, the SEC is going to make bank. Look at how much the Big Ten is getting now from Fox and ESPN, what percentage of the value of that is in the OTA games? I'd say one third, at least, and given that the top SEC games are worth a bit more than the top Big Ten games, the SEC package that CBS now has could be worth at least $150 million/year on the open market.

true, although 2 of the CBS games were the Army/Navy games.
The thing that will be really interesting to watch is if the SEC is able to maintain that Saturday Afternoon slot in this new deal. That's something that's made them a lot of money... Half of this years top 10 were daytime games.....
