Things That Stood Out To Me in Week #2:
1. It's going to be between Oklahoma and West Virginia in the Big 12. Right now it looks like Oklahoma may have the edge.

2. It's going to be Clemson in the ACC, and perhaps not one of the usual suspects as a challenger in the ACC. Virginia Tech is making a strong showing so far. But, quietly Duke and Boston Collegee, N.C. State, Wake Forest, and Syracuse have all moved to 2-0 as well.

3. It's Ohio State and possibly Penn State in the Big 10. Wisconsin should cake walk to the Big 10 CCG, but they don't look any stronger than they have the past couple of years. Northwestern, Michigan State, and Nebraska became 1 loss teams today and none of them look complete. Iowa was shaky in their win over Iowa State.

4. The PAC is going to be likely a contest between Stanford and Washington, but, there are more schools much closer to the levels of Stanford and Washington that could play spoiler in the PAC. That doesn't seem to be as much of the case in the Big 10, SEC, ACC, and Big 12.

5. It's going to be Alabama and Georgia in the SEC with Auburn/LSU playing spoiler in the West and the spoiler in the East isn't obvious yet if there is one at all.

6. The AAC had a very redeeming day picking up 2 wins over the ACC and one over the PAC. And the MWC picked up one over the SEC.

7. I think we have only a handful of elite programs this year. I think we are going to have heap of schools between 7-5 and 9-3 this year and fewer 12-0 and 11-1 than we had last year.

8. I saw more bizarre replay outcomes today than in week #1. In the F.S.U./Samford game an official picked up a flag throw for a block in the back by F.S.U. on an interception return after he saw that F.S.U. scored. I don't think it affected the eventual outcome but the block in the back was obvious and textbook and no explanation was given for the pick up of an obvious foul. A call in the Kansas State / Mississippi State game rivaled the Patriots/Raiders call for a non fumble when an MSU DLineman nailed the Kansas State QB between the numbers in the back and it was clear there was no arm motion when the ball came out. The TV announcers looked at the replay and noted it was an obvious fumble and only backtracked when the ruling after a very lengthy review said it was an incomplete pass. Equally bizarre was the "fumble through the endzone call at the end of the Clemson / A&M game when the ball carrier seemingly fumbled the ball out of bounds near the 1 yd line and the ball didn't go through the endzone but was close to the pylon.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the more money rides on the games for conferences and betters the more bizarre some calls may wind up being in the future. I look forward to the day when there are League officials instead of conference ones. It might not clean up the incentive to have selective vision for bets but it might clean it up where conferences are concerned.

9. Is it just me or are many of these games boring? And if not boring is it just me or do you get tired of coverage that shows celebrities in the stands and talks about them while play is going on, announcers who get impressed with their own personal stories and talk about those while play is going on, or the 1/3rd screen shot of the talking heads talking about something other than the game where not only do you hear the asinine comments but can't see all of the field because of the cut away?

I don't know about you but if I'm watching my college team I don't care if somewhere in MLB there's a no hitter that might happen. Just tell me about it if it does happen and then tell me in a crawler. And don't hype other programming while an official is explaining a call.

Hell, are there any announcers who can actually carry on an intelligent discussion about the two teams before them, let alone call them by their right team names?

10. Yes I'm old and sometimes look in the mirror to make sure Andy Rooney isn't looking back at me, but I would love to watch just one game this year where the broadcast was about the game, the players in it, and where the announcers actually referred to the statistics of the game being watched.

Have a great week! And if your thoughts are different from mine then great! But what are they?

For the last few years I've been muting the sound on TV games (not just football) about two-thirds of the time. Try it.

Bad announcers are why I try and go to as many SC games as possible. When I have to watch, alcohol helps

Observation:
ESPN is really going cheap on the cameras.

On that A&M fumble out of the end zone, I couldn't convince myself whether it was fumbled a full 6 inches to the out of bounds side of the pylon or to the end zone side of the pylon. I leaned towards it being fumbled out of bounds before the pylon, but there just wasn't any camera angle that gave you even a decent view to decide.

When Florida missed that FG that curved in in the 4th that would have cut UK's lead to 21-10, again they had no good camera angle. I think the call was right and that it went right over the goal post and not inside, but it wouldn't surprise me to see a camera angle saying it was good. However, at least there, the ref was in a perfect position to determine it. Florida's fumble at the end that UK returned for a TD was a weird call too. It was the right call, but I've seen that same thing where the QB got the benefit of a doubt and it was called a forward pass. In that case ESPN did have a good camera angle.

Also, Georgia kicked a FG at the end of the half against South Carolina. There were 6 seconds left and they shot the gun after the play. I've never seen a FG take 6 seconds before. There should have been a couple of seconds left on the clock.

And yet tennis can get it right, showing exactly where the ball landed relative to the line on any play. Football and all of its billions riding on the outcome of games, doesn't give crap.

I can drive through a gate at 70mph on the highway and get my account dinged .47 cents each time, but football can't put any kind of sensor grid up???

The games are getting fixed more and more each year. Plus the refs don't get fired if they cheat so they have no incentive to rule the game fairly. Check out this play, ref and crew were suspended for 1 game instead of fired. https://youtu.be/Y3B4vuKYx74

It's not just you, the sport is becoming boring. Not too the point of the NFL (Nearly Finished League) but it's slowly getting there.
And I agree with others that recommend muting the games.

I know when ESPN does MAC games they spend a good deal of time talking about their favorite teams and games instead of the two that are actually playing. Even while a play is happening. Very annoying and insulting.

BC and WF play Thursday night.

Yeah. It surprises me that Michigan hasn't made the move yet. I keep thinking it's going to happen, and yet... it keeps not-happening. Also, I'm dreading the Tulane-@-Ohio-State game on 09/22. Could be a 63-0 job if the buckeyes are really running on all cylinders.

Lots of football left, but for now AAC is still noticeably better than MWC or C-USA/SBC/MAC.

Way more than two-thirds of the time. Almost always unless there is a specific announcer that I like and want to hear what they say.

The FG was from 44 yards. Six seconds off the clock is not that strange.

If it's a local team and the radio broadcast isn't too far out of sync with the TV picture I'll take advantage of local announcers. They may have their own issues but at least they're not like Dick Vitale hyping the UNC/Duke game all year long regardless of who's playing right in front of him.
