Quote:Cougars sign on the nation's top high school centers
Nov. 16, 2004
Columbia, Mo. - University of Houston head coach Tom Penders announced that Emmanuel Adeife, a 6-foot, 9 and one-half-inch, 215 pound center from Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. has signed to play with the Cougars in 2005-06.
"We targeted Emmanuel after watching him play in an AAU Tournament at Denton, Texas last year," Penders said. "He is the best high school big man in the state of Florida and plays for one of the best high school teams in Florida. We are very fortunate to get him in the early signing period."
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Adeife transferred to Dillard after averaging 14 points and 11 rebounds at Miramar High School in Florida.
Dillard is coached by Daryl Burrows, and has won four state championships in the last five years. Burrows has produced players such as Keyon Dooling and Clarence Gilbert, who went on to play at Missouri, along with Jimmy Tobias, who signed with Oklahoma last year.
Adeife chose to attend Houston after being recruited by Texas, DePaul, Marquette and Nebraska.
He joins Carlton Spencer, a 6-foot, 3-inch, guard from College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, Calif., as players who have signed with the Cougars during the early signing period this year.
Turnaround Tom is starting to line them up for the Coogs!!! He is turning into the type of big time hire that we needed for basketball.
Maybe we can overtake Rice as the best college basketball team in town. Let's give Rice a little
