Who knows? Come December we may have
SEC Kentucky 13-0, Alabama 11-2, UGA 11-1
ACC Syracuse 13-0
Big 10 Maryland 12-1
Big 12 Texas 12-1
Pac 12 USC 8-5

Kentucky will be in because it means Kentucky has beaten Georgia and SEC West champion.

Syracuse will be in because it means Syracuse has beaten Clemson, Notre Dame and either Miami or Virginia Tech.

Maryland is in because it means Maryland has beaten Penn State, Ohio State and B1G West champion.

Texas is in because it means it has beaten Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and West Virginia.

This is super easy job for the committee!

UCF only got the chance if all SEC teams have three losses or more and all other P5 teams have two losses or more. It is very unlikely to happen. This applies not only to UCF and all other G5 teams such as North Texas, USF and Cincinnati.

Yes, I think pretty much everybody agrees that a g5 team regardless of record will not ever play in the A5 playoffs

No it isn't. They will just tout their weak schedule and move on; just like the national media will do as well. Which is BS as no decent P5er's are ever going to do home and homes with G6er's. The playoff is a set up, but still better for G5er's than what they had before.

ucf will never get in...the committee has this bias towards the p5. they have a solid chance of going undefeated. memphis, cincy and usf all have shot at a ranking if they keep winning. But ucf will probably still be kept out even if they beat all those team and win out...

I think Houston would’ve made it a few years ago if they had run the table

My playoff 4 today:
1. Alabama

3. Clemson
4. Stanford

Stanford should be in the driver’s seat with a victory at Notre Dame this weekend. I think Oklahoma is a hair weaker than Stanford. I think Georgia loses more than one along the way.

I would put Notre Dame in there if they beat Stanford. Sure, ND could always trip up, but if they win on Saturday they'll have their two toughest games (Michigan and Stanford) behind them.

There are a couple of fascinating scenarios that could arise. Let's say that Notre Dame manages to remain unbeaten and that West Virginia loses a a pair but manages to beat Oklahoma. Let's also say that the PAC doesn't produce an undefeated champion. What happens to the Big 12's current calm if a one loss Oklahoma is beaten out by Notre Dame for that 4th CFP slot? Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State/Penn State, Notre Dame.

And what happens to the ACC if Clemson drops a close decision on say an iffy call to suffer their only loss, but the CFP puts Notre Dame into the CFP at Clemson's expense? I think the resultant animosity could be epic.

As to the OP's contention that UCF should get in if they go undefeated, I say the controversy would be the lack of the data point against a P5 opponent because the Tropical Storm knocked them out of that game, eerily similar to the previous year. Does the committee compensate or hold to form?

Why? In your scenario, Clemson lost and therefore is "undeserving".

Thems the breaks. Don't lose.

P.S. I think that ND has a couple of losses in them, so I wouldn't worry about your scenario.

Perhaps, but I would still like to see it. I think it'll be much tougher for the committee to rationalize.

Also plenty of P5s do home and home's with UCF. One got rained out, but they have two of them going on right now. A top 10 South Carolina team went down there in 2013 and Stanford is playing there next year.

I would disagree, but this thread is about the cfb committee and how they will have their hands full this year
There are four A5 conferences that will produce champions that will appear to have decidedly week SOS leaving only the SEC to represent the cfp with three teams, heck while their at it why don’t the committee just add auburn in there too, isn’t this what everybody wants to see, a cfp with four sec teams
1) alabama
2)Auburn
3) Georgia
4) LSU
This is the ultimate climax for college football as it’s set up now

Why does a game have so much importance just based off of it being a "P5" opponent?

Alabama has so many 5* players that their second unit could beat most every other team in the country too, mybe the committee sets this years final four at

1) Alabama
2) Georgia
3) Alabama second unit
4) LSU

I would like to see that as well - though the committee will definitely rationalize a reason to exclude them no matter what they do. Just like TCU beating somebody by 50 points and dropping in the rankings. And I want to see Alabama play somebody on the road. Like @Penn State, or @Stanford or something like that.

Recent history shows that it is extremely unlikely that those 4 teams, or any 4 or more P5 teams, will be undefeated after the CCGs. Based on the committee's track record it is also very unlikely that a two loss team would be selected if there are at least 4 teams with fewer than 2 losses among the P5 champs and ND. (Also, no one appears to be too angry about two loss teams being left out in favor of one loss teams.)

So the more likely question to arise is, if there are more P5 teams (including ND) with one loss than can be fit into the four team playoff, which of them get in. That's when there is potential for actual controversy.

Where in my post did I mention two loss teams? Other than saying a two loss WVU beats Oklahoma. I didn't have WVU under consideration.

I don't see how that could be UCF. They have one remaining P5 on the schedule, Pitt. And with Pitts recent loss to North Carolina, the other P5 that had been on the schedule, that SOS is going to be down again.

i agree. BYU is a indi so they have full control of their schedule. they have the means to schedule like the big boys, so they can get in if they go undefeated most years.

I never understand what is "controversial" about the Playoff Committee selections.

Everyone agreed to a four team playoff with the sole arbiter of who gets in being the Committee.

So, in that case, they are the "Supreme Court" (no appeal, they have final say) of the playoffs.

If your team didn't do enough to impress them, try again next year. Better luck next time (I include ND in this, too).

What controversy? Its not like the Committee will hear someone ***** about their selections, and change the four teams to make anyone happy.

Crying about their picks is useless and pointless. It is what it is.

No it isn't. They will just tout their weak schedule and move on; just like the national media will do as well. Which is BS as no decent P5er's are ever going to do home and homes with G6er's. The playoff is a set up, but still better for G5er's than what they had before.

I would like to see that as well - though the committee will definitely rationalize a reason to exclude them no matter what they do. Just like TCU beating somebody by 50 points and dropping in the rankings. And I want to see Alabama play somebody on the road. Like @Penn State, or @Stanford or something like that.

Alabama has a few set up for future years with Texas and Notre Dame, maybe assuming Saban will be gone by then anyway. I think the last true road non conference game for them was in 2010 or 2011.
