In 1995 the WAC had only 10 members.

I think the better question is why the WAC didn't just expand by 4 teams to 14. That conference might have been able to last better.

14 didn't seem to be an option because TCU required Rice and SMU to be invited too

To get the Western schools to go for it (Hawaii And the Cal St schools) they demanded both UNLV and fellow Cal St school SJSU.

That's 15 so tossing in Tulsa evened things out.

I knew TCU, SMU and Rice all said they were inseperable. I didn't realize that the Western WAC teams wouldn't accept them unless UNLV and SJSU were also invited.

Tulane lobbied hard to get in, but Karl Benson laughed about it saying there’s no support for them as they were too far away.

The WAC doesn’t expand in 94:
-They keep their Holiday Bowl (Holiday Bowl cited WAC expansion as reason WAC was dropped)
-They get the Cotton Bowl bid taking the place of the SWC which is disbanded. (That actually happened at first)
-TCU eventually gets a WAC invite no matter if they are an Indy or CUSA
-WAC eventually becomes a part of the BCS as conf #7 of an 8 team set up.
-WAC safe from raiding for 15 years from 94 until at least 2011 when the PAC and Big 12 expand and strong with BYU, Utah, TCU, Air Force.
-Boise St never gets FBS call up as the Big West doesn’t need need them

Boise would have gone up regardless. This is why I would oppose adding weak Texas teams to MWC, it only dilutes MWC.

To where? It was the Decimated WAC that invited Boise. Had that not happened Boise would not have anywhere to go.

BSU was 1A (FBS) when they joined the WAC from the BWC in 2001. If the WAC invite had not come, BSU was going to the SBC with UI, NMSU, and USU.
