ECU is back!
On the College Football Empires Map that is...

https://www.sbnation.com/college-footbal...eek-6-2018

"The East Carolina Pirates, who’d lost their homeland to North Carolina A&T to start the season, found their way back onto the map — including some coastline — with their last minute win over Old Dominion this weekend."

ECU even has territory on the historical version apparently.

"The Pirates of ECU overthrew the monarchy of Old Dominion and are the black sheep of the Historic map, being the only team who isn’t receiving votes in the AP Top 25 or isn’t the reigning FCS champ."

It's nice to have territory in the Blacksburg and Tallahassee regions I guess.

RE: ECU is back!
I was hoping this was gonna be a thread about how our total D is currently tied with Wisconsin for #9 in the nation.

http://www.espn.com/college-football/sta...on/defense

I know the season is young and when we start playing these explosive offenses things will likely change to some degree but anything in the top 100 would have been good after the last couple years. The obvious issue for ECU is the turnover margin, because as previously noted, we have a substantial advantage in yards over all of our opponents thus far.

This upcoming Temple game is concerning because they have had our # here recently and they live off of turnovers and defensive scores. That said, if we can somehow break even on turnovers in this game then I really like our chances because this is the 1st time since joining the AAC that we can matchup with Temple from a toughness standpoint if you will. So far this season it appears that our D attacks as much as theirs does. We just haven't been as good at forcing turnovers. Temple has been very good over the years at not only forcing turnovers but returning those turnovers for a lot of yards and even defensive scores. I believe that is the next step in the evolutionary process of ECU's D. If we can pass the Temple test on the road, then maybe we can proclaim that we're back!

Also, forgot to mention that ECU is #2 in TFL, #7 in Sacks, #7 Rushing D but only #40 in Passing D. It will be interesting how this all shakes out as the season moves along.

Also, there's this (see link below).

https://theamerican.org/news/2018/10/1/u...orees.aspx

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nate Harvey • ECU • Sr. • DE • Knightdale, N.C.
Harvey led an ECU defense that registered nine sacks and 15 tackles for loss in the Pirates’ 37-35 win against Old Dominion. He had six tackles, including 3.0 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss, to lead a unit that held the Monarchs to 21 rushing yards. Harvey is the national leader in tackles for loss in 2018 (2.8 per game) and is fourth nationally in sacks (1.63 per game).

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jake Verity • ECU • Jr. • K • Bremen, Ga.
Verity hit the game-winning field goal from 38 yards with 46 seconds remaining to lift ECU to a 37-35 win against Old Dominion. Verity scored seven points on the Monarchs and remained perfect (8-for-8) on field goal attempts this season. He leads The American in kicker scoring at 9.0 points per game.

Cincy is 5-0. We need them to win their next 6, beat them on November 23, and the map will look like Purple America. 04-rock

We're not technically 9th in anything other than rushing defense. We're 9th in total yards allowed because we've played one less game than most teams.
