The Rockets play at Minnesota to open the season this fall, 9/04/2004. Looking forward to some paybacks for that 31-21 loss at Minnesota back in 2002!

This will be the 3rd game in the 3-game series that was signed.

2001 - Toledo, OH
Toledo 38
Minnesota 7

2002 - Minneapolis, MN
Minnesota 31
Toledo 21

Should be a decent game, I think Minnesota will take it though.

You could be right. It it tough to beat them at home.

However, they lose their QB and this is the first game of the season. They have a great running game though.

We have our QB back and the nation's leading receptions man is back as well as a freshman all-american wr from last year. That duo of receivers is joined by a JUCO transfer that originally committed to Nebraska before signing with Toledo. Our offense will be very good.

I expect to see something like a score of 35-31.

What is the deal with their JUCO transfer? I have not heard much about him, is he any good?

This should be a great start to the season for both teams. If Toledo wins then they got a great shot at having an outstanding season, and Minnesota really has a shot at top 4 in the Big Ten.

The JUCO is Gabe Hattchett from Sacramento City College. He will be a sophomore because he only played 1 year of JUCO ball. He was listed as one of the top JUCO receivers in the state of California and verballed to Nebraska when they got their new coach.

He then found out that he would need to take a summer class at Nebraska because one of his classes would not transfer over. That same class would transfer over to Toledo and we were recruiting him hard so he decommitted and signed with Toledo.

Sounds good. I guess the real question is as you said earlier, can Minnesota put a QB on the field? If so, Gophers will take it. If not, then the Rockets.

I don't know everyone, I think Toledo is going to have a great team next year and I am excited to see returning players like Lance Moore, Bruce Gradkowski, Steve Odom, and Andrew Clarke. I haven't seen Gabe Hatchett play yet, so I can't say anything about him, though I do know that he was heavily recruited by the coaches. I am also excited about seeing Scooter McDougle play a little bit also.

With that said, I am not excited about seeing the Rockets play in another dome as their last appearance (Syracuse) was a massacre. I do think that we have too many stars returning to let that happen again.

Syracuse was a terrible experience.

We last played @ Minnesota in 2002 and lost 31-21, but we had a very good chance to win this game. We were tied at 21 in the 4th quarter and we had a 4th down at midfield. We faked the punt and threw a pass to WR Terrance Hudson who took it all the way for a touchdown. However, the Big Ten officials threw a flag and called Toledo for an illegal man down field.

As it turns out the pass was thrown behind the line of scrimmage so there is no illegal man down field on this play. Minnesota ended up scoring on their next drive to go up 28-21 and then we ran out of time. They kicked a field goal late to put it out of reach after we failed on a 4th down conversion with only a minute or two left in the game.

A few days after the game, Toledo received an official apology from the Big Ten Commisioner's office for the blown call. Who knows if we would have won the game if they made the correct call, but we might have.

Anyway, sometime you have to play above the officiating to win and we obviously didn't. They got their paybacks for our 38-7 victory over them in 2001 and now this fall it is our turn for paybacks!
