1. UCF
2. USF
3. Cincinnati
4. Houston (by virtue of having to beat one of the 3 above in a conf. champ game)
5. San Diego St.
6. Utah State
7. App St.
8. Hawaii
9. Fresno St.
10. North Texas

5-10 are debatable.

RE: Access Bowl Top 10 Week 6
4 of the top 5 being American teams means there would have to be an epic collapse for the American to somehow choke away the access bowl this year. Even if those 4 beat up on each other, I think that a 1 or 2 loss American team will end up coming out on top of the pile when its all said and done. Especially since 3 of them are now ranked teams.

Yes, AAC odds of getting the Access bowl have to be above 95% right now. Anyone who thinks otherwise is not being realistic.

To help you out

Utah State (4-1) NMSU, Tenn Tech, AFA, BYU (Michigan State)

Let's look at Utah State's schedule using Sagarin:

#36 at Michigan State (78.41) - LOSS
#159 New Mexico State (48.94) - WIN
#233 Tennessee Tech (26.65) - WIN
#71 Air Force (68.56) - WIN
#72 at BYU (68.32) - WIN
#127 UNLV (55.96)
#100 at Wyoming (61.92)
#95 New Mexico (62.68)
#110 at Hawaii (60.25)
#154 San Jose State (50.36)
#120 at Colorado State (57.43)
#33 at Boise State (78.90)

(by the way, why not play a 13th game when you play at Hawaii?)

With the exception of that season finale on the smurf turf, every remaining game is against a team that ranks at least 95th in the Sagarin rankings. There are only 130 FBS teams total! And even if you toss out the 8 FCS schools that are ranked ahead of New Mexico, that's still an awful schedule of remaining games! So I don't think Utah State would crack at least the top 8 of that initial list.

For all of the teeth gnashing of people pissed about the AAC candidates, here's the thing - look at the remaining schedules. UCF (#26, 80.53), Cincinnati (#49, 74.40), Houston (#52, 74.09), USF (#54, 73.23), Temple (#55, 73.13) and Memphis (#57, 72.91) all have to play one another, which is going to give a significant schedule bump and credit to the team that emerges from that (NB - it's also possible they all beat each other up, which is why I don't so automatically subscribe to the notion that this is the AAC's to lose).

My bad. I put them ahead of Troy simply because they blew out Troy at Troy. I saw Troy listed in top 10’s and replaced them with Boise

Makes sense. Only pointed it out because I thought it may have factored into your ranking.

RE: Access Bowl Top 10 Week 6
Clearly the AAC East division winner is in the driver's seat for the Fiesta Bowl so I see a 3 way tie for #1.
#2 is Houston if they can win out and get to championship game. If 1 loss Houston plays undefeated AAC East champ then the winner of that game will go to the Fiesta Bowl.

However, Utah St is a quiet #3 and is in prime position to win the MWC Mountain. Ideally they would face #4 MWC West champion Fresno or SDSU. Hawaii is also currently in that tie with Fresno and SDSU, but they play Utah St in the regular season in a big matchup with possible NY6 implications.

Finally, I would put App in the #5 slot. If somehow both the AAC champ and MWC champ have multiple losses I could see one loss App getting the nod.

I do think that this year a close call will favor the MWC since committees tend to get political. The Fiesta bowl would likely prefer a MWC team over a non undefeated AAC team. So I could see a 1 loss Houston losing out to a 1 loss SDSU or Utah St

It doesn't HAVE to be the Fiesta Bowl. People just assume it will be because the Peach Bowl had the G5 rep last year. But I'm sure that the Peach Bowl would love to have UCF back if we were the G5 rep since we sold out our allotment in record breaking time and spent a lot of money in Atlanta. And that is really what it is about for the bowl game, fans that buy tickets, travel and spend money in their city.

It's significantly about stuff like ticket sales and hotel rooms, but that's not all it's about. TV ratings matter, and e.g. the Peach Bowl was beaten by the Citrus Bowl which was played at the same time. The Peach was the only NY6 bowl that was beaten in the ratings by a non-NY6 bowl.

Also, bowls have a significant prestige factor associated with them, so a bowl game can puff out its chest more if it is hosting name-brand elite teams rather than G5 teams. A big bowl would rather have its brand associated with a major power than with a G5.

It was beaten by the citrus because the citrus was on ota and reached a ton of more households.

All ny6 games are on ESPN and by default it means less available viewers. ESPN places it's best football games on ABC durring the regular season for the same reasons.

An AAC east team is headed to the peach or orange depending on play off teams. Houston would probably end up in the Fiesta but could end up in the peach as well.

Wonder how many fans Hawaii would bring to the Fiesta Bowl?
Did they bring any fans to the Sugar Bowl that year they made it?

I would take Troy out of the Top 10 and move Utah State in. There is no way Troy be ahead of Boise State.
