RE: Bowl Eligibilite Teams
Through Week 9, a total of 50 schools have learned their bowl fate. That's 4 fewer than last year at the same point in the season.

In Week 10 another 33 schools could either qualify or be eliminated.

Week by week, this is how the bowl picture was determined, for good or bad.

Week 2017 2018

..6.......9.......7
..7.......9.......8
..8......20.....17
..9......16.....18
.10.....17
.11.....15
.12.....23
.13.....21

Tot....130

So typically, with two weeks to go in the season, close to 80% of FBS schools have either already qualified for a bowl or still have a chance to do so. That's what having 39 bowl games will do. Very few fans will have lost interest until close to the end of the season. That's good for TV ratings and attendance.

EDIT: Updated to reflect Week 9 results and Week 10 schedule.

I see he still has not taken Hawaii off of the list. they are NOT bowl eligible right now, and won't until they get a 7th win due to having 13 games........

This will be their third week trying to get over the hump. It would be a bummer to have six wins after Week 6 and then not make it.

RE: Bowl Eligibilite Teams
so 37 eligible and 1 in Hawaii with 6 wins already but needing 7.

we have 4 games next week with 5 win teams. So guaranteed to be up to at least 41 after next week
Duke/Miami
App St/Coastal Carolina
Mich St/Maryland
Texas A&M/Auburn

also have guaranteed game rest of the way
Stanford/California

so guaranteed to have at least 42 right now. That number will go way up after this week- as there are a lot of 4 vs 4 games left...

UNC - Technically dead if they don't get a 12th game.

Near Dead
Nebraska, ODU, WKU, UMASS, NMSU, Wyoming, Oregon St, Arkansas, Tx State

UNC should call West Virginia.

RE: Bowl Eligibilite Teams
Take Northern Illinois off the 5 win list (they have 6) and add UMass to the 4 win group.

After looking at the remaining schedules for all these teams, it looks to me like 23 are very likely to become eligible, and another 10 probable. That would make 81 eligible.

But there are a lot of 4-5 and 5-4 teams playing each other in the next few weeks. They could create a circular firing squad. So nothing's sure yet.

Correction made. Added UMass to list. I had Northern Illinois list as bowl eligible and also on the 5 win list.

RE: Bowl Eligibilite Teams
Interestingly, last year at this point we had 48 eligible and ended up with 81 eligible (three staying home).
This year we are at 48 eligible and have one team likely to get to six that is ineligible (Ole Miss).

Note - Norfolk State won't count without a waiver, as it would be the second FCS win for Liberty.

2. Iowa State 5-3 (Baylor, Texas, Kansas State, Incarnate Word)

One potential complication for Iowa State (if they lose all of the B12 games) is that the Incarnate Word game is dependent on UIW not making the FCS playoffs. They are currently tied for first in the Southland.

I think they will beat Baylor and KSU, so shouldn't be an issue.

It would depend on Hawaii quite frankly. If Hawaii was at 6-7, their position on the waiver order is higher than Liberty anyways, so they would get the spot.

I'd agree with you obviously on Hawaii.....

Liberty I'm not so sure of. Given that they are a transitioning team, I don't know that they'd get the benefit of the doubt.....
