Liberty I'm not so sure of. Given that they are a transitioning team, I don't know that they'd get the benefit of the doubt.....

Without looking it up. Hawaii at 6-7 would make it and they would go back through all the 6 wins who had two FBS wins.
Then if it is less than 78 Liberty is in regardless at 6 wins because they've already worked through the schools with 6 wins but only 5 countable wins.

I don't think they would. Liberty would be a 5-6 team with the 2nd FCS win not counting. I don't think they're going to make a huge exception for Liberty at all....

Having said this- I think we'll get to 78. Liberty would need only 28 teams left to get 6 wins..... With where we are- that should not happen.

If you get to Liberty, you've already applied the rule allowing two FCS to count.

That's not a rule. Used to be, but that went by the wayside a few years ago......

It's now-
1- any team with 6 wins, but FCS win vs non counting team
2- any 6-7 team
3- any 6-6 transitioning team
4- 5-7 by APR

So if the 6th win was against Norfolk State, it just wouldn't count at all, and officially they would be 5-6 for Bowl Purposes?

Correct. Unless they got a waiver for it- which I wouldn't expect. This is a make up of their Florence game- which sounds waiver possible- except for the fact that the original game was against Norfolk State.

You are saying EXACTLY the same thing I said but drawing a different conclusion.
First they add in any six win without enough qualifying
Then any 6-6
Then any 6 win Transition team.

My conclusion they have already reached the point where they are willing to permit a team with not enough qualifying wins in so they would apply that principle to a 6-6 transition to avoid dropping into the 5-7

But their 6-6 would include 2 FCS wins. There is now NO provision for that to move ahead of 5-7 teams. Used to be.

RE: Bowl Eligible Teams
S20 is correct, a waiver would have to be given by the NCAA to allow 2 FCS to count. They did for South Alabama once but that was due to the fact LSU cancelled the game to make up an SEC game. They had to schedule a FCS team to get their 12th game.

First they add in any six win without enough qualifying ...
To be explicit, "non-counting team" means ONE FCS win, but the FCS team doesn't have enough scholarships to be eligible to count. It doesn't mean "has an FCSwin that doesn't count because another FCS win has already been counted".

If you have 2 FCS wins and one of them counts because that FCS school has enough scholarships to count ... then you've got your win against a counting FCS school. If neither of them counted, and you had 5 wins against FBS schools, then hitting the first criteria would let one of them count and bump you up to six.

A lot of these teams needing one more win are facing tough competition. Of these, I expect SMU, TT, USC, ULL, FAU, OK State, Purdue, BYU, Toledo, South Carolina, and Hawaii to make it.

I don't think any of the teams needing two wins will. FSU's remarkable 37 year streak is in mortal danger.

Coastal Carolina should pick up its 6th win against South Alabama. Also Tulane can win against Navy.

Yeah, I admit I don't know enough about some of those more obscure G5 schools like Coastal to really know, and I thought hard about Tulane vs Navy, but I think the middies will pull that one out. I admit that will be a close one that Tulane definitely could win.

So if there are 77 bowl-eligible teams, how many short would that leave us?
