Rare call in FAU - La Tech game ...
LT has the ball on their own 14 yard line, 4th and 4, so they punt. FAU gets the ball around midfield, good position.

But there's a flag. The call is "illegal participation" on FAU, and the reason is something I don't recall ever seeing in 50 years of watching football: During the punt play, FAU had two players with the same number ("5") on the field at the same time. How does that happen? Maybe that's why I'd never seen it before.

It was costly, because the 5 yard walkoff was enough to give LT a first down and allowed them to move outside the shadow of their goalposts.

RE: Strange call in FAU - La Tech game ...
It happens. Most teams will have a few guys sharing a number with one on offense and one on defense but usually coaches are alert enough to not give both special teams duties at the same time.

BTW, Tech wins 21-13. Tech now bowl eligible at 6-2.

Meanwhile FAU's sophomore meltdown under Kiffin continues as they fall to 3-5.
