Insight As To How It Feels to Be A G5 Fan
From LocalMemphis.com writer Jessica Benson---daughter of Karl Benson.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - When I was a freshman in high school, I shared a desk with a boy who was a total *insert word I can’t use in a work blog*, and one of his favorite activities was arguing with me about Boise State football because a “mid-major” team can’t beat a “real team.”

His words, not mine.

Some context: For the majority of my life, my dad, Karl, served as the commissioner of the Western Athletic Conference and “mid-major” might as well have been the ‘F’ word in our household.

The first football team to ever devastate me was Fresno State in 2001.

I watched future #1 draft pick David Carr beat Colorado at Folsom Field and beat #23 Wisconsin at Camp Randall, but the Bulldogs couldn’t beat Boise State (their first year in the WAC) or Hawaii AND I’M STILL HEATED ABOUT IT.

At the prime age of nine, I realized a WAC team needed to be perfect if they had any shot at BCS-era post season respect.
