Bring back All Saints Day
It seems that this day got canned in favor of Halloween. I would like to see it come back, because a lot of Halloween scares my young son, and it’s getting too evil for me as well.

RE: Bring back All Saints Day
We live in a country where every day has become like halloween. As a child I was glad to celebrate halloween and go trick-or-treating. As an adult, I see the day for what it is and what it has promoted within our nation. Tomorrow is Wednesday. I'll be at church. I'd be happy if more people chose to attend church instead of celebrate halloween.

RE: Bring back All Saints Day
Why can't we do both with equal enthusiasm and appropriate decorum?
All Hallows Eve (slurred into "hallow'een" (from 'all hallows evening')) is the day we are called to remember and celebrate the lives of ordinary people who lived extraordinary lives, oftentimes in spite of or even during their personal hardships or tragic circumstances. These people still found a way to uphold their spirituality and dedication to Christianity, and have so been designated as Saints in order to provide attainable examples of real humans devoted to their faith.
The day after ALL SAINTS DAY (All Hallows Day-November 1st) is All Souls Day (November 2nd) where we are called to remember loved ones and others who have passed on and pray for their souls to advance to heaven.

As with Ash Wednesday (by far the most well-attended day at Catholic churches (which is ironic because even though many think there is, there is actually no designated compelled attendance) where the "evening before has assumed an out-sized importance in secular culture (Mardi gras or Fat Tuesday'-since fasting supposedly starts on Ash Wednesday, though most enthusiastic celebrants conveniently omit it), So has halloween come to by and large surpass All Saints Day for the secular culture. They are inadvertently acceding to the existence of a religious (and Catholic, no less--the horror!) holiday without really understanding it to be so.

As for me, we take the month before to plan and construct our costumes by hand on our own, using math and other sciences to devise them, and use it as a constructive and family-oriented learning experience. We enjoy the various candies and the community (a very large outdoor street party in an established neighborhood not our own, that draws thousands), and then we get up at 5:30am before school next morning every year and go to church early, to celebrate the real holiday. (As well as the next day to remember and celebrate our past ancestors.)

The Halloween and the church are only really exclusionary if you choose to allow them to be. Same for Mardi gras and Ash Wednesday--it is possible to enjoy both, as long as you give proper priority to the real feast day and not its inferior predecessor.
