We've won multiple games without attempting a pass, so there's no shame in that line.
I mean no offense with this comment, but I don't know how you guys can stand watching that offense and game style every single week. I know it's effective when working right but it's soooooooooooo boring.
No offense taken. Fifteen years into this thing, most Navy fans have come to realize that not everyone is smart enough to understand and appreciate the offense.
There are those who think it is "three yards and a cloud of dust" or call it "wishbone." Those old power I or wishbone offenses used option principles to get more blockers at the point of attack; the Johnson-Niumatalolo-Jasper offense uses option principles to get the ball to play makers in space. Johnson's design incorporated run & shoot principles - the slotbacks where they are make this a four-receiver set every down. Miami-GaTech was in my remote rotation last night (it's always nice to watch Miami lose, seeing the Navy offense do it is an added bonus) and they quoted the stat that GT is top ten in yards per pass attempt.
It's actually designed as a big play offense.
If the "soooooooooooo boring" is that it seems like the same play over and over again, then two things...first, it means you're missing some nuance. Second, I for one like it when the entire stadium knows what's coming and we can do it anyway. I also enjoy seeing bigger stronger faster athletes that our guys shouldn't even be on the same field with sucking wind in the second half.
Now this year hasn't been at peak level, so yeah, a lot less attractive. Take a look at November two seasons ago though: two punts in four games that month, and averaged 61 points per game in three AAC games.
Thanks for your concern, but we're pretty happy overall. This year is ugly to watch at times, but we're pretty happy.
