We all expected better results and a trip to a big time bowl game at season's end.
You'd have to have been delusional to just expect a NY6 bowl this year.
Not at all... We did however overlooked our total no show Defensive Coordinator though.

Major is handling this well. ESPN just trying to cash in on the drama.

RE: ***Official Tulane at Houston Game Thread***
I made a comment about Ed during the SMU game when I saw him being a distraction on the sideline when we were failing to accomplish anything on the field, he also got into an altercation with smu players going into the tunnel at halftime.
He needs to just focus on himself and quit practicing unless he decides to be a teammate. I know if I’m an nfl coach I don’t want someone who’s been told they’re the best thing since sliced bread all of their football career. He is talented , and when on the field he can achieve whatever he wants. Problem is, whatever HE wants isn’t always what’s best for the team.
If he’s like this on a small stage wonder what the big stage would do to him. A lot of people are comparing how baker acted to this, difference is Baker was a walk on and had to work his way to respect.
Oliver was a 5 star who has always been a 1 man show. Even the D line coach said during HS it was always about letting him do his thing. Look at his damn stance when he starts off the line. His back is flat and he has to take an extra step to launch because he refused to listen to his coaches.
Hard pass on having that culture. Shame on major for allowing it to get to telling a kid that the jackets are meant for players coming off the field causes him to lash out like that.
Side note: can we get enough jackets for everyone? Lol talk about G5.

It almost feels like ESPN was trying to deliberately portray UH as a lowly, unappreciative, undeserving POS G5 that can't even recognize when God himself is playing for you.
Certainly no agenda detected there.

Ended up being just a post-game chat on the field. Applewhite left the door open for Oliver to play. Ed just needs to be humble and play. I don't think he realizes the public damage he did to himself and the university reacting like that to the HC on the sideline. A rule is a rule. The winter coats are for active players, the equipment manager was doing his job and Applewhite backed up his staff.

Don't blame Major at all.
No oliver made the decision not to play himself.

Maybe, but I'm sure he has handlers/agents too
You aren’t allowed to have an agent while in college.

I'm implying that he's been breaking NCAA rules since HS.

It's on ESPN 8: The Ocho!
Also, what in the world was Ed Oliver thinking? Seriously, over a jacket, too. My wife was saying that his actions, including his bouncing and running around during pregame, have told her he cares more about his ego than the team. He cares about what he could get in the pros than making sure the team he's currently on has the best chance to win. His blatant overreaction to Applewhite enforcing a team rule should be a red flag to NFL teams.
Now then, Major Applewhite does have some responsibility to bear, too. He could've nipped this in the bud last week by saying to Oliver that if he (Oliver) is good enough to bounce around and act like a crazy person before the game, he can go suit up. That said, this is mostly Ed Oliver's fault. If he's been cleared to play, then he should be playing. If he's not going to do that, then send his butt home. That's what I would've done. (And maybe now, it might happen.)
Therefore, It's 80% Oliver, 20% Applewhite. However, in my opinion, this should hurt his draft stock.
D'Eriq King, on the other hand, should not hang his head. Freak injuries happen all the time, regardless of athletic ability. Heck, all it takes is for someone to step wrong and you can either break a bone in your foot or sprain your ankle. And you don't have to be an athlete (elite or otherwise) to suffer a freak injury. I feel bad for the kid. He'll bounce back by next year though.
I dont begrudge Ed sitting out. He has a lot of money riding on staying healthy. That said, I find it interesting that the very week Major said Ed will not be given reps in practice until he's ready to play is the week the defense finally plays with a little heart and grit. Makes me wonder if the team was resentful of the way Ed was able to do as he pleased, eating up practice reps all week, and then sitting out the game---leaving the rest of them to deal with the aftermath of an unprepared backup taking his place.
Maybe the other players didnt mind at all--I have no idea. But the coincidental return of spirited defensive play on the same week Ed was told "we are going to hold you out of practice until you are completely healthy and ready to play" is kinda uncanny. The jacket incident is just another aspect of ending any appearance of special treatment. If a coach doesnt enforce team rules reasonably evenly across the board---it eventually will cause issues on the team. Im not a huge Major fan---but I think he got this one right. At the very least--what he did was not unreasonable at all.

I had the same thought. I wonder if that has slowed him down just a tad. He doesn't seem quite as quick.
But 28-9 is a pretty good statement.
On the stop watch, King is as fast as Ward. However, to me---King is not as elusive. Ward was an escape artist with an almost uncanny "feel" for where the pressure was coming from....and Ward was very difficult to hem in once he got into the open field. Not saying King doesnt have a little wiggle in him---he does---Im just saying Ward was simply more elusive.
That said, beating Memphis was going to be chore even with King playing. Without him...and the starting cornerback and the backup DL (who is now a starter) we lost tonight....we are facing increasingly long odds of even being competitive vs Memphis.

Dont fret. There could be rain in a 100 mile radius of the Liberty Bowl. If so, you guys win by 4 TDs

I caught the Ed Oliver thing last night...what I saw was a player not respecting his head coach, period. Pushing his own coaches/team-mates, nearly causing a fight while trying to get in the face of his own head coach. Oh hell no. Buh-bye Ed. Good luck in the NFL.
And it was 50 degrees. That's like maybe a little brisk. it's not unbearable. Not to mention, the dude is already wearing a sweat suit. C'mon man.

Houston should simply thank Oliver for his contributions and ask him to remain home from now on. Go work out, talk to your agent, whatever. He has no interest in Houston football from the looks of it and he was trying to fight his coach in the middle of a blowout victory at home.

On senior day. Looked like in the admittedly short video his teammates were not happy with him.
