6 scenarios this year could lead to 8 team playoff ASAP
This was brought up on ESPNU Radio yesterday and is very plausible and could lead to utter chaos:

1. #2 Clemson wins out; they're in
2. #3 ND wins out; they're in
3. Michigan wins out
4. Wazzu wins out
5. Oklahoma wins out
6. #5 Georgia beats #1 Alabama in the SEC championship game; both are in.

CFP would be 2 SEC teams, an ACC team and Indy ND, leaving out a 1 loss Big12 champ, 1 loss, Big 10 champ and 1 loss PAC champ. If 3 P5 champs are left out, there's no way they're waiting 6 years to expand the playoffs. Let's all root for chaos!

Just posted something like this on another thread. Like I said there---if you want CFP expansion---root for Notre Dame and the SEC.

I get all of that, but another point was brought up on the counter-argument recently that I hadn't thought of before, but it makes 9 kinds of sense. The Bowl committees will fight tooth and nail against playoff expansion because the bigger the playoff gets, the less important the bowls become.

Agreed, but who has more power and persuasion, bowl people or P5 Conference commissioners? I think that question is almost rhetorical. If 3 P5's get left out of the cfb all hell will break loose. All G5 fans should unite and root for utter chaos. lol

The only scenario I care about is UCF going undefeated and winning the NY6 bowl against one of the Elitists.

The whole conversation has started now because of UCF. You have a ESPN article with Areco saying, we should consider expanding the playoff. Now every news outlet across the nation is talking about potentially expanding the playoff.

Using this scenario with modifications you could Michigan, Wazzu, and Oklahoma all are 2 loss P5 champs but lose out to 2 loss Georgia, leaving Clemson, 'Bama, Georgia, and ND in. In this case Georgia doesn't win the SEC, has 2 losses but still gets in.

If you think the committee is gonna leave out a 1 loss Bama, you're crazy. They're a lock.

You've gotta look at the big picture; an expanded 8 team playoff will almost assuredly include the top G5. The quicker utter chaos incurs, the quicker they move to 8. If 3 P5 conference champs are left out, you bet your bottom dollar, they're not gonna wait until 2026 to make the change.

That's a bit narcissistic. This conversation started long before last year's start to UCF's current run. I will say, though, UCF has resulted in putting a magnifying glass on the whole subject.

Add Washington state to that. Leach will go crazy if he goes 12-1 and is left out

just a bit? i'd say completely. a G5 could go undefeated 3 years in a row and not spark any desire to change the system.

Pretty sure that started in 2015 when we were ranked playing ND and Houston was undefeated.

Link an article about expanding the playoff around that time frame and I’ll believe it.

Yeah, and watch everyone in the so-called "power 5" get left out.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but bring back the BCS!

Link for the National article?

Let me see the national article that says let’s expand the playoff prior to this year.
