Best chance ever for a win against them.

Marshall whipped them up and down the field in 2013, but the ACC officials went above and beyond to take care of VT. We all know ACC officiating... and this was a standout performance even among that.

They also got an absurdly lucky bounce on a pass to tie the game late that a current NFL DB had his hands on with a clean shot to the opposite endzone.

You remember it differently than me, he tipped the ball, and unfortunately, it went right to the VT receiver in the end zone behind him. He needed to fall down if he had intercepted it and the game was over. That was a pathetic performance by Doc, similar to Snyder losing the Kansas State game we have in the bag at home.

You just described the play I was talking about in the same way I did. He jumped the route, tipped the ball, and it still went directly to their WR. On 4th down. Barely keeping his feet inbounds.

Marshall is 2-10 all-time against Va Tech in football.... but they own an 8 game streak in the series.

Quote:...Contract details were not immediately available, so it’s unclear how much Tech would pay for the game and if any future dates have been scheduled between the two programs. Marshall had an insurance policy on the game through the conference that would pay it $1.4 million for the cancelled game. It would still get paid the difference between that figure – minus travel expenses – and whatever the Hokies pay for the Dec. 1 game....

Um.

So can I get a "hell, yeah, we'd better be getting something else out of this deal, then?"

Doesn't seem to be an even trade now given that revelation.

I think this reporter has it wrong. Wasn't the South Carolina buyout 1.3 million?

The comment that was originally posted had Hambone saying "we have 1.4 million reasons to do a game."

Something isn't adding up. I don't think the deal that is being presented in that article sounds logical.

Way to go, Marshall. Now, go ahead and beat FIU this Saturday while you are on a roll.

I would be okay with 1 million or maybe even $750000 and the game is in Huntington especially since we don’t have to give back the insurance money if we play. We are helping them a bunch, not the other way around. However, I do see where a new bridge can be built. But their schedule is full for the next 6 or so years if I remember correctly.

It's a 2-3 hour drive, closer for the NC fans. They won't have many there as they are playing for nothing but the ACC's worst bowl and almost no notice before the game to sell tickets. We get more credit for beating them there, should we win.

It's the best situation for us to play them there and beat them. Instead of playing them here in front of 10k and looking more bush league than we already do.

Treat it as a bowl, because the bowl we will get is not going to matter in the least. People whining about this opportunity are not going to be pleased no matter what, anyway.

It is the best situation to play them there.

That doesn't mean that you don't expect of them some actual compensation beyond the $1.4 mil you're getting anyway... reasonable to expect another football or basketball date... or both... out of the deal.

Confirmed Deal:

VT beats UVA: Marshall will go to VT on Dec 1 for the first game of a 2 for 1 series and a Payday of $300,000.

VT loses to UVA: Marshall gets a garunteed $100,000 and a H&H at a later date.

Either way, it's a win win for the Herd. Great job by our AD Mike Hamrick for getting this deal.

Basketball team is AT Ohio U on the 1st, also an easy drive and significantly more popular right now. I wonder how that will affect traveling fans to Blacksburg should the game occur. Be a tough choice. I mean we aren't sending 5k to the Ohio game but I could see 500 going. And those are fans that would have likely gone to Blacksburg.

It's really intriguing to see what the short notice on the VT game being played will do for the attendance of said game.

He didn't jump the route, by memory, the ball was over his head and he jumped as high as he could to tip it. You described it like he had a pick six, wasn't really the case.

Start at 2:30:30... definitely jumped the route and reached up but really didn’t get off the ground, so it hit his fingertips.

Presuming VT is playing for something, yes. I would expect something close to the normal gate.

If not, then obviously, any attendance reduction is probably seriously confounded by simple lack of interest in a team that's underwhelmed.

Well, it’s gonna help that tickets are $25, $50 for club, and $75 for suite.

I'd be surprised if surveys showed that price was the major factor in the decision... most VPI fans I've ever known, including one relative, have ample discretionary income... but who knows... maybe that's the icing on the cake that seals the deal for some.
