I highly recommend you put your family in the car and drive to Boone...then immediately head south 8 miles on HWY 321 to Blowing Rock. Lovely little mountain town with restaurants that do not use plastic forks, nice shopping, and if you can stay there are places that do not have the numbers "6" or "8" in their names.
This. Wife and I go to Chetola resort in Blowing Rock often. We rarely ever go to Boone. In fact, we usually go around Boone on the way to west Jefferson from BR.
Boone is designed for college kids. Blowing Rock for adults with money. Boone is overrated by App alums, but so are virtually all college towns. People think of them fondly because college years are memorable years.
Blowing Rock is definitely nicer, but we have never had any emotional connection to Boone, so we see it for what it is rather than through the eyes of college kids.
Lambert, what a class guy, fires his team up to beat FAU and I think he values the game ball his team gave him as much as anything he'll take away from his time at Charlotte.
Came in with class and is leaving with style. Brad isn't the guy to take us to the next level but he got us here and as a fan from years before a shovel hit the dirt I am grateful to him.

By the way, fear the Cruz Missile!
I understand where you're coming from, I've said the same about DOC, he'll never take Marshall to a New Year's Six bowl. Lambert left Charlotte with some solid players, the right coach should have you in a bowl game next year.
Plus the old AD kept him after last year's 1-11 season, which is part of the reason we have a new AD. Hill basically let him have this year as his reaudition and making a bowl probably was the minimum requirement.

Poor recruiter. Had local HS coaches talking junk about how they didn't want local kids (not sure which side is more at fault here).
22-48, with a good portion of that 22 being FCS, and DII/DIII programs from the first two seasons.
Has never had a winning season.
He took a program from nothing to FBS in 3 years, that's a tall order for any coach. Charlotte Metro is a hotbed of recruiting, USC, Clemson, NC State, and UNC recruit the area heavily, not to mention Wake Forest and Duke, Charlotte will be 2nd choice to all these schools in most cases so you should never settle just because a local kid passed over by SEC and ACC schools wants to play FBS football.

I understand the frustration, Marshall kept DOC after his meltdown season, no reason for it either. Building a program from nothing to conference champion will take time, don't be too hard on Lambert for the effort he made to start the program, if the next coach doesn't have you in a bowl game within two years that coach should be on the hot seat.

For me, YES, I lived in Charlotte more years than I care to admit. My son played HS football with some of the players on the Charlotte team so I follow for that reason, plus I attended Charlotte to complete an accounting major in the 1990's, while I was there about half the buildings now part of campus didn't exist. I have deeper ties to Charlotte than you realize. Heck I lived about 10 miles from the campus my entire 25+ years in Charlotte so YES I know a lot about the University and the football program.

Great, then you realize how atrocious his in-game play calling was and how undisciplined his teams were over the years, Hell, we spent a whole season watching him rotate 3 QBs in and out of games. Sometimes during the middle of drives.
