North Texas played well in the 1st quarter, then we struggled. It has been a trend since conference play started. Believe me, many of our fans have noticed this and are eager to see our coaches address the problem. If it is not fixed, it will cost us in our bowl game.

If that's been UNT's pattern all year for conference play, it sounds par for the course then. Our pattern all year has been that we score our most points in the 2nd and 4th quarters, and that the 3rd quarter is our worst, and that held true yesterday also.

UTSA's Cumulative Points By Quarters This Season
1st - 37, 2nd - 57, 3rd - 10, 4th - 66

Btw, the 4th-quarter stats are no doubt due to most teams playing their reserves because we've just been that far behind in most games by that time. And yes, we actually scored 10 points in the 3rd quarter all season, 3 vs. LA Tech and 7 vs. Southern Miss, in back-to-back weeks ironically.

Funny how every team develops patterns that give them issues. I do think UTSA has a good young QB to build around. Rivers impressed me last night.

Rumors over the last couple weeks or so have it that he's jumping ship to Rice next season though. I wouldn't blame him if it's true because even with the way all our other quarterbacks struggled all year, and the injuries at the position to boot, we waited until the next-to-last week to give him his shot.

Their season stats comparison...
Grundy ... 93.0 QB Efficiency ...... 50.5 Comp. % ... 109.9 Avg Yards/Game
Gillins ..... 69.2 QB Efficiency ...... 49.2 Comp. % ... 45.0 Avg Yards/Game
Rivers ... 122.6 QB Efficiency ...... 57.8 Comp. % ... 154.3 Avg Yards/Game
Weeks .... 85.4 QB Efficiency ...... 44.8 Comp. % .... 60.2 Avg Yards/Game

We had a different guy calling the plays on offense last night also, as our Passing Game Coordinator/Receivers Coach Jeff Kastl was given his shot. What bothers me is that we waited until the very last game of the season to make that change also, after being dead last in FBS in offense for who knows how many consecutive weeks.

Seems Frank Wilson is too indecisive with a great many decisions he makes, and the result is 4 wins in our last 16 games dating back to last season.

That certainly seems to be bad management of his staff. How hot is his seat right now?

A lot of our fans wish it were hot, but it's probably not yet, as I'm sure they'll likely give him at least one more year to turn things back around again. There really isn't much place to go but up though if you've only won 4 of your last 16, so the question is what standard of improvement would then be acceptable to our AD and president for next season? No one really knows at this point.

Warm, but he’ll be back. He’ll get next year to get us back on track. However, If we lose the opener to UIW next year, I imagine he won’t last the season.

RE: A History of Hate- North Texas@UTSA
It's that time of the year... Hate Bowl VIII.

UTSA comes in with the upper hand, having a 6-4 overall record and leading the C-USA West division. North Texas is back to .500 after Beating Rice and retaking the Texas Title lineal championship.

The series stands at 4 wins for North Texas and 3 for UTSA, with UNT having won the last 3 in a row.

Both teams took some PR hits during the season, as UNT fired QB coach and former SMU player Tate Wallis for personal matter that occurred before he was hired. And UTSA sidelined Tyrone Nix for reasons I still do not know. What can I say, it's 2020.

Have seen that Hitler satire many times, some better than others. But, this one was pretty good. It's from the 2004 movie "Downfall" which is very good and worth a watch if you haven't seen it. It won the Academy Award as Best Foreign Film.

Glad you unearthed this thread. I was going to make a game thread today but this is much better than I would have created.

This year's game really snuck up on me. I hadn't thought much about UNT until yesterday, This is a big game for UTSA and I like that UNT looks to be playing better. I expect a very competitive game. Would be nice to avenge the beat down you gave us last year, and really the last 3 years. I do feel like this is a true rivalry game. The highs and lows for both teams have been intense and I don't think either fanbase thinks much of each other.

Ha! The enemy of my enemy....

UAB only has Rice and USM left on their schedule. If North Texas beats UTSA Saturday, our game next week will likely be for second place in the west. What an ugly football season.

For only being 8 years old, there have certainly been fireworks in this series. Last season's edition was underwhelming. But this season's game has meaning for both programs.

In my opinion we have the best conflict in C-USA. The Hundred Miles of Hate and Shula Bowl just don't seem to have the same level of animosity or interest. In my opinion, our programs should officially name the series the "Hate Bowl" and sign a title sponsor and network for a 5 year contract. These games should be on TV.

I fully expect to see some very hard hits and maybe a scuffle or two Saturday. I'm not sure the other fans around C-USA understand just how much dislike there is on both sidelines.

I've noticed this myself as an outsider observer...it has somehow started to overshadow the hate between UTSA and TX St....has to be a conference thing (as being in the same conference brings out more natural hatred)
