A Brief History of Hate- North Texas@UTSA
UTSA is clearly beneath UNT.

I checked it on the map to make sure.

Thanks for reminding about the 2013 Roadrunner win. Put us right back in the driver’s seat.

Should be a Good game this weekend....

RE: A Brief History of Hate- North Texas@UTSA
I don't pretend to know how Wilson and the UTSA fans view this series, but I know there is a faction within the UNT fan base that refuses to call this series a rivalry. But, our beat writer calls it a rivalry, and in this week's press conference our Littrell made it pretty clear how he and the players feel about this series.

UNT's coaches and players see this as a rivalry game

There used to be some question as to if UTSA is true rival for UNT.

Littrell and his players left little doubt how they see this game. They see it as a big rivalry.

"The UTSA game has always been an emotional one for our team and our fans," Littrell said "We are looking forward to it.

"In rivalries, records don’t mean anything. They are emotional. You have to prepare for a dogfight."

So the local beat writer, who is trying to make this into a rivalry, writes an article that this is a rivalry. I'm shocked.

Littrell said it's a "rivalry" but there's no emphasis there. To me it seems a few people keep harping that it's a "rivalry" with the hopes that it eventually catches on.

Rivalries are built on hatred or from tearing out the heart of the other team in big games. We've had precious few of those with UTSA. I'd love to have rivalries with UTEP and Rice because of the long histories of those programs but, again, there's a lack of those heart wrenching games. I think we have something building with La Tech after these last few seasons but it's not there yet. If we could schedule our La Tech game at the end of the season where the impact is more meaningful it would help.

If UTSA wants to call us a rivalry then I'm fine with that. We call SMU a rivalry game but they don't really consider us to be one. I just hate people saying UTSA is a rivalry game over and over when it clearly isn't to the majority of the fan base. You can't build a rivalry by proclaiming it. A rivalry has to be born from the joys and heart break on the field.

What are the odds Wilson is retired after this our game Saturday? Is his buyout too much right now?

I keep hearing that his buyout is about $3mil, so I don't know. Me, personally, I would like to give him another year, since we currently have close to 21 scholarship players injured.

Wilson's buyout is his remaining base pay (~$1m/year for 3 years) less total compensation from his next job, and he is required to actively seek employment. So in reality, the buyout will likely be very small and I would guess we reach an agreement for $500k or so.

But the administration doesn't seem interested in letting him go just yet, and some of our biggest donors are staunchly defending him.

We'll likely have to wait until we lose to UIW in our season opener next year before anything gets done, and then we'll be stuck with him and/or his contract through the rest of 2019.

Drinking is NOT a game. You need to take it seriously if you are going to do it right!

Now that’s funny. Unt fans didn’t appreciate that.

Even at 12, there are fewer FBS members per capita than there are in Tennessee.

Texas is a big, football crazed state, wanting to exclude two programs with some ~70k combined students, one of which being located in the seventh most populous city in the country because "there's already 10 FBS programs in Texas" is loser talk to be frank.

You can label it whatever kind of talk you want, but if Eastern Tennessee and Tennessee Tech were moving up, MTSU wouldn't like it very much either. UTEP fans were not pleased with UTSA moving up either.

You should probably worry more about the MT/WKU rivalry.

If Lamar, Sam Houston State, Stephen F Austin and Texas Southern all moved up Texas would be about even with Tennessee in terms of FBS programs per capita. 07-coffee3

If ETSU and/or Tennessee Tech got serious about moving up, I wouldn't want to stand in their way personally. I'd feel pretty ****** trying to keep those students/alumni/fans from getting a FBS program and just as a reminder, in per capita terms, two Tennessee programs moving up is about equal to eight Texas programs moving up.

I would say UTC is probably closer to moving to FBS than any other team in the state of Tennessee. They've been asked by the Sun Belt before, and turned it down. They lost their rivals from the SoCon when Georgia Southern and App State moved up, but Tennessee Tech will never move up, and ETSU just restarted football, so they're a ways from considering that.

One thing standing in Chattanooga's way is University of Tennessee. Since they're affiliated, the Vols might hold them back for selfish reasons. Not to get off the subject, but as far as FCS programs in Tennessee moving up, that's my take on it. No offense to MTSU, but honestly feel UTC has more upside because of the kind of city Chattanooga is turning into. It's a hot spot for young college grads and its new nickname is "Gig City" because of all the internet speeds available there.

UNT will win.

Just wanna say that the UNT beat writer incorrectly states in a different article on the game that the home team has won every game in the series so far...

https://www.dentonrc.com/sports/football...9bebe.html

UTSA won the first time we ever played at Apogee, in the year we went 7-5 and got no bowl invitation because of the NCAA's lame FBS Transitional rule. We knocked UNT out of contention for the West title that year with our win, as UNT wound up 9-4 that season after their bowl victory.

The big question is who gets fired for utsa. Demote FW to recruiting cord. Hire an offensive minded coach from top FCS school and pay him. This game will be a blow out & will put a stamp on a season that could kill our program. We aren't competitive and have the worst offense in the country. Someone needs to go, I was piissed when we hired Campos and I got tons of flack for it. She's done nothing yet. This is where she can turn the program in the right direction or wrong direction. If no one is fired and we don't see plans for facilities in 3-6 months we have a problem. This program and athletics needs something to hang our hats on. Right now everyone is beyond embarrassed. With so much potential we can't find someone smart enough to make this work?

Cool?

The entire conversation was hypothetical and ETSU and TTU were picked by the fan in Texas, not the Middle Tennessee grad.

ETSU, TTU, UTC, APSU, TSU, who gives a **** which of these programs are actually more viable as a potential move up(I don't think any of them are going anywhere personally)? Perhaps the only thing I care less about is "Coach Bonez" opinion of Middle Tennessee's upside compared to any of them.

This conversation was simply about North Texas fans whining about two more FBS programs being added in a state with nearly 30,000,000 in population.

With less than an hour to go before kickoff, I hope all the upsets today have been well reported in our locker room. I don't want my North Texas team to be the next victim.

Here is an article with the "Keys to the Game".
