Word is that he's waiting to see if Satterfield goes to Louisville. If Satterfield does, Houston will try for the App St job. Or possibly ECU or GT if they offer and App St doesn't. Wouldn't be surprised if Charlotte leaked the offer to the press to try and force Houston's decision. Regardless, it should all be settled in a few days. Feel sorry for the JMU kids who have a big game on Saturday. It was a mess when it leaked that Craig Bohl was heading to Wyoming in the middle of one of NDSU's title runs.

Yeah he gave a short statement to the press yesterday either before or after practice. He did not seem too happy to have to do it, and I think it is because he did want this to stay close to the chest rather than put out there. I get the feeling that he wanted to do it "the right way," whatever that may mean. I understand the familial and monetary reasons why he might be making the move, and can't fault him for it, even if some consider Charlotte a lateral move to JMU.

Do you think ECU will offer Houston?

The timing of Mo's dismissal (why not do it last Sunday or after the NC State game Saturday?) makes it seem like we're worried one of our top targets is going to get snatched up, so maybe... or maybe with no AD it took until today to get approval to fire Scotty.

They have said that the next AD will hire the football coach. If that doesn't happen soon, that makes the timing of this even more strange.

IMO, it is hard to overstate how much the impact of losing Terry Holland to retirement has had on ECU athletics. Hope they can right the Pirate ship.

I'm sure he'll get an offer from ECU this weekend and head down to Greenville, unless some big name guy decides he wants the job, in which case I will be just fine welcoming Houston back to Harrisonburg.

Actually, I think Houston will get multiple offers and will take his time. I think the bigger question, if Satterfield leaves App, is Houston interested? App State football is in much better shape than ECU. Houston would be setup for success while he will have to do a rebuild at ECU. Don't get me wrong, Houston would be a great get for ECU. Just you have to think the state of the ECU athletics admin would be a concern for a new coach.

It's not sour grapes, it's letting other coaches know that there are no offers standing in their way if they interview with us. We need a coach. We can't have other coaches out there thinking they would be a second choice and we're sitting around with our fingers crossed that Houston will say yes. We stopped our search because he took the job. Then he backed out. Had he just said "I'm going to think about it" we could have continued our search while he thought about it. If it hadn't been leaked by someone in his camp that he would be our next coach, our AD wouldn't have had to release a statement like this.

Hard to win the press conference when fans perceive the guy hired strung you along because he wanted a different job.

Southern Miss handled it very differently when we landed in the same situation. The end result was Ellllllllllllis Johnson. Hill deserves credit here.

Canada would make a lot of sense for Louisville. Similar system I think to what Louisville was running....

Here's an interesting if somewhat unexpected opening: Liberty coach Turner Gill is retiring to take care of his ailing wife.

Given how much money they have and how willing they are to spend it, who might they be targeting and who might be receptive to it?
