Here's the "knock" on La. Tech. that made me chuckle: "Not a lot of players that they can recruit within a three-year drive."

I know that Ruston was difficult to get to, but a three-year commute seems excessive.

If you're driving from Prince William Co. to D.C., it's in the neighborhood

I would argue that the team with the second most all-time wins has better than 8th best history/tradition.

I would bet that Marshall has won more games than some of the teams ranked higher than them in the history/tradition category have even played.

Agreed. Doesn't surprise me either, especially because of the lack of facilities and fan support for basketball. But it makes the job Coach Henson has done there so far in his first 2 seasons all the more impressive.

This is really interesting. Love the candid anonymous comments from the coaches.

But I still don't forgive Goodman.

Also, the coach that said our campus was just okay... are you kidding me? Our campus is beautiful. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Or maybe he didn't venture too far from the athletic facilities at the bottom of the hill.

For starters, anything they put in the text is automatically on the record. Most (not all) coaches aren't dumb enough to do that.

These ass hats in the media business now don't confirm **** and at an increasingly rate just make things up.

Lastly, if that were true then I would have serious concerns about the mental state of the coaches in our league. What head coach wants our league to suck more? If my coaching staff was afraid of competition I would want them gone.

Which, voila, is exactly why they were so giddy! Because they knew he would elevate the entire conference. QED!

(But yeah, obviously not texting, probably Facebook messaging...)

I'll agree that Bowling Green isn't exactly a hot spot for activities/stuff to do, however yes...WKU has a beautiful campus.

If Marshall isnt in a good recruiting area does that apply to Kentucky, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Xavier, Dayton, Louisville, Virginia Tech, WVU,...? Huntington St. Joseph recruits are out of reach for CUSA schools. Marshall included.

That's the tweet I remember! Did he offer any kind of update considering last year we won the championship?

That's the thing with most of these reporters or pundants, they all love to crow and get their name out there, but nobody wants to own up when they're proven silly..

from personal experience, because I travel a lot for work. 95% of these coaches probably don't venture out of the travel box of hotel to restaurant to hotel to venue.

And considering most hotels are very similar, and most people are not adventurous eaters, I don't see that as being a valid category.

Pertaining to fan base.

Yes, Marshall fans expect to win, but it's not the same expectations for our basketball program compared to our football program.

Let me explain. I think the football program has plateaued to a point, so there's not as much forward traction. On the other hand, our expectations are growing for basketball. Coming off of our huge NCAA tournament win, the fanbase has become reinvigorated. I think it's a great time to be in the Marshall basketball program.

Either way, we have proven as a fanbase that if you show us a winner, we support wholeheartedly. I don't know what else you can expect as a coach coming to a program than that.

For 30+ years I traveled a lot for work. The groups of people I traveled with ranged from just 3 or 4 people at a time to nearly 40 depending on the size of the job and duration of the trip - which typically lasted from 1 to 3 weeks. The travel ranged from places like Jacksonville, FL; Biloxi, MS; Groton, CT; San Diego, CA; Bremerton, WA (and several others within this country), as well as places like Sasebo, Japan; Yokosuka, Japan; Singapore (and several others outside of this country). The age of those I traveled with ranged from people in the early 20's - late 60's.

From my travel experiences I can say that people tended to fall in one of three categories, and usually stuck to those categories regardless of where we went. It transcended the age of the person, though the younger people tended to be more likely overall to fall into group 3.

1) Those that basically just go to work, hotel, and restaurants.
2) Those that go to those places above and sometimes venture out.
3) Those that always venture out wherever they travel to.

I concur. And I don’t think it would be a leap to expect most work centric coaches fall into category 1. That’s my point.

When I travel I'm the 3. =] But I travel with mostly 1's. I tend to roam new cities by my lonesome when I'm not with any 2's I can't talk into being a 3 with me.

On the same token, when it’s 20 degrees outside, like during basketball season, even your heartiest adventurer becomes mr Chili’s.

Didn't get the 10 rating for WKU recruiting base....We had top 40 recruiting class and some of our best players are from KY. Otherwise pretty good list, the coach who commented about our campus must be MTSU assistant....

The recruiting base isn't so much about our recruiting classes as it is about local talent in our area. I think KY high school basketball is underrated, but I don't think there is more talent here than in large metropolitan areas in Florida, Texas, Virginia, etc. So I understand the knock. Luckily we fair pretty well in our "limited" base, so it doesn't really matter.
