Former JMU Coach Mo Linguist spent a year on Fleck's staff at Minnesota and now works for Jimbo at Texas A&M. Sometimes you just need that P5 stamp to get the job you really want.

@PeteThamel

Source: Maine coach Joe Harasymiak is leaving to take an assistant coaching job at Minnesota. He’d led Maine to FCS semis, best season in school history.

I'm not convinced we wanted Harasymiak over Cignetti. Just as (more?) likely that Joe was looking for his next step, and once we filled our position he considered the assistant job. Win at JMU, and he could have been looking at an FBS HC job next. It sounds like he might not even be a coordinator at Minnesota, and is two more hops from FBS HC, instead of one. I'm sure it is a bump up pay wise for him, he was around $150k.

Sucks for Maine, they had a good thing going, and it will be tough for them to replace him. I'm guessing they could promote their DC, unless they take a look at one of the D2 guys like Bell or Cronic.

I agree, this tell me that JoeH just wanted out of Maine anyway he could get it. I still think this guy is fool's gold and glad he is not our coach today. One magical season playing on a lot of emotion all season.

I’m not sure about calling him fools gold. Compare the last two years of Him and our new coach on paper and some would say he was a lot more successful with less. I think we got the better recruiter for our region.

Kerwin Bell, the coach at Valdosta State who was mentioned on here as someone we should consider, won the D2 championship game 49-47 over Ferris State and as his reward is the new offensive coordinator at USF.

That's a good move for him. He's spent the vast majority of his life in Florida (and Valdosta is pretty much Florida it is so close). Good fit. I think he'll do well. If USF's offense rocks it over the next 2 years, he can quickly become a HC candidate at the G5 level (at minimum).

Likely a good fit. He is was a GA under Spurrier and spent a few years as OC for Toronto in the CFL.

That game score would worry me on the defensive side a little if he was our new HC. Solid W/L record though, and he will probably be a HC again in a few years.

They only shut out one opponent this year, and that team (Shorter) went 0-11. They did have a few games giving up 14 or 21 points while they scored 50+, so maybe some garbage time points made the score more "respectable"?

Bell is a stud recruiter. Head coaching jobs at Jacksonville and Valdosta State were impressive. Perfect guy to for Charlie Strong's staff.

You guys know I’m a bit enamored with Bell. Glad he’s moving up in the world of coaching. He’s good.

Bump. Might be a useful trip down memory lane to put things in perspective. Some things just never change.

Pages 41-44 if you want the usual plane spotting.

That's interesting. I know nothing about Eli, but I will say considering how highly rated their QB was, I did not think NC State had that good of an offense.

Eli Drinkwitz? Never heard of him. But, going on his name alone, sounds like the kind of guy I'd enjoy drinking a beer with and eating some grilled brats. Then again, I'd enjoy drinking a beer and eating some grilled brats without him too. 04-cheers

Drinkwitz turned out okay. Has an SEC team in the NY6 this year.

Mo Linguist? His middle name must be Cunning. And, obviously, he coached at Morehead State.

Just a guess.
