Story is that the AD met with major boosters after the Liberty fiasco and told them he was going to issue a bland vote of confidence and let Alford go at the end of the season; the boosters insisted Alford be fired immediately and committed the money for his buyout.

From the Time Is A Flat Circle Department: The interim HC is Murry Bartow, whose dad Gene was the first UCLA HC after Wooden. Gene left after two years as HC to become the first UAB basketball HC, and after his retirement from UAB he was succeeded by Murry.
