After one-and-a-half games, Conference USA out-scored 76-19 so far today. Granted they’re up against two strong opponents (Utah State and App State), but still...

This is a mismatch. Utah State should have played App.

Oddity today, normally in bowl season the team losing its coach is at a disadvantage but today CUSA teams keeping their coach got rolled by two teams that had to replace their coach.
Wasn't as surprised by this one.

I'm not sure that this is actually true. What we do tend to see is that if a team loses its coach and then loses their bowl games, their fans immediately talk loudly about that to excuse the loss. Whereas when a team wins a bowl despite losing its coach, they don't tend to mention it.
So this perception may just be an effect of louder excuse-making by fans of losing teams rather than a real thing.

If we had a round-robin among App State, Fresno, Boise, UCF, and Utah State, that would be some entertaining football. Maybe throw Georgia Southern in their too.

Better to get the MWC in there too. A competition among the MAC, AAC, SB, and CUSA wouldn't be valid without them.

Imo some coaches are great with game planning or in-game management, losing one of those hurts a team a lot more than a motivator or recruiting guru. While there are varying degrees of impact out there however, in general I think it's fair to say a team with it's head coach will do better than one without. If they lose they probably would've lost anyway, and if they win it'd probably be by an even larger margin. But I'd be interested in seeing the data on that too.

Under the current system, one champion from the G5 will play in the Access Bowl. The other 4 G5 conference champions really should play each other in bowl games, IMHO. This was actually done with the UAB/Northern Illinois matchup, but App State and Fresno were both misplaced.

Last year there was an opportunity for the Co-Champs of the SBC to play the two champs from CUSA and MAC. FAU opted to play locally so all their fans could attend rather than go to New Orleans against Troy, but App did get Toledo in Mobile.
However, I'm sure Fresno would 10/1 rather played where/who they did than in a G5 champ match-up. I know App fans would more than likely opt to play close by against a mid-level ACC/SEC team on a Saturday on ESPN than a G5 champ.

I see no advantage in playing the 5 or 6th place team from any P5 conference. What's the point? Play someone in your peer group and go have fun. It's not like we're playing for a NC.

It’s not even that high. It’s more like #10/#11/#12.

I look at it this way, playing and beating a 6-6 or 7-5 P5 gives thr school and players a win to hang their helmets on. But beating a G5 Champ should help the school with a greater chance to finish the season ranked.
As a fan of a G5 school I'd rather see the later if App was on the edge and outside looking into the Top 25. I'd rather the former happen if App was already ranked going into the bowl game.
