Hawaii Bowl:

Attendance:...30,911
Turnstile........27,837

Don’t know where you got 10-13K.

It’s true the crowd was late getting into their seats but that’s typical. Hawaii fans love their tailgating.

Also keep in mind the venue seats 50,000, so even with a good turnout it’s not going to look crowded.

My eyes tell me no way that stadium was over 55% full (as suggested by your turnstile count). Granted I was observing in the first quarter.

I went back and checked a few more crowd shots. The upper deck looked empty. The lower deck did fill in later as you suggested.... I'd probably revise it to 20K. Cheers

I agree, the official attendance figures of over 30k each are way above what I would have guessed via my eyeballs for the Hawaii and DG bowls.

Some stadiums are hard to observe...I know when I'm in the Carrier Dome and run off for a pit stop in game there are literally over 1000 folks milling around the concourse for the 200/300 level as it allows you to watch the action and stand.

Traditional designed stadiums don't allow that and feed you through tunnels under the stands. I tend to think both Mobile and Aloha are more old school.

Yes, both of those stadiums date from before 1975. And also the ratio of attendance to the size of the stadium matters. 30k in a 50k seat stadium looks more impressive than 30k in a 80k seat stadium.

E.g., you remember the 2011 Syracuse vs Tulane game in the Superdome. Officially, there were about 6,000 in attendance, but i could have sworn the real number was in the hundreds.

Nevertheless, the DG stadium is small, its capacity is about 34,000. Officially, the DG bowl drew 31,000, a near sellout. I never saw anything anywhere near a near-sellout in the stands. The stands looked mostly empty.

The upper deck was shut down, no tickets were sold for that part of the stadium. Only the lower bowl which seats roughly 35,000 was opened for the game. Given that some attendees are always out of their seats, a turnstile count of 28,000 would result in the lower bowl being about three-quarters occupied. Which it was at the height of the game.

Also keep in mind that turnstile counts include everyone who comes through the stadium gates. That’s not just the fans in the stands. It’s everyone on the field too, and everyone up in the pressbox, and everyone staffing the concessions, and the ushers, security guards, etc. etc.

I think it was covered there was just always 30,000 people in the bathroom and buying hot dogs.

51,000 in Houston for Baylor and Vanderbilt???

I didn't watch much of the game, so I couldn't figure a crowd breakdown. When I heard the matchup of 6-6 teams from two private schools, I thought the Houston bowl would take a bath this year. I knew there would be plenty of Baylor fans due to proximity, but I didn't expect a matchup with Vanderbilt to do well at the gate.

For a game between two private schools with 6-6 records, well done, Houston. It could have been much worse.

41K+ announced for Camping World Bowl. It was pretty legit (not too many empty seats) I heard the lower 2 levels had 41K seats. Anyways Cuse repped well...excited fanbase. At least 20-23K Cuse fans. They wrapped around both end zones and even had a few small pockets on the WVU sideline. Very few local neutral fans from what I could see...probably the price of the tickets kept the casual fans away. I saw one UCF fan.

The WVU band was twice the size of Cuse's...however, Cuse played a ton more than they did in game.

A really pretty WVU coed sitting in our section...think she was there with a Cuse boyfriend. She seemed to enjoy herself nonetheless...nobody razzed her from what I could tell.

Cuse should make many preseason Top 25 lists next year...we are back!!!

Edit:. Updated Cuse fan numbers downward after reevaluating. There were probably 37-38k actual in there. Cuse had a good 65% of the crowd.
