This is a big issue, and while getting a school cherry picked is a long term risk, getting a successful coach cherry picked is an ever present risk. Marketing the conference as being "as close to the A5 as the Go5 competitions get" also markets your successful head coaches as "being successful in competition as close to the A5 as the Go5 competitions get."

That's fun, send me a link to that quote if you don't mind, I'm up for a laugh. Given that none of the Big East holdovers were doing that even back before the collapse, that is quite the expectation and not representative of any of the fan bases.

I think Cincinnati was recruiting at a high level when Kelly and Jones were there. If there was a school that was doing the right things and got screwed in realignment is Cincinnati.

Tuberville happened from 2013-2016. It was terrible hire for UC for a lot of reasons.

This years class is on the small side. We had the 3rd youngest roster in CFB last year. UC is back on an upward trajectory.

Then why did UC's recruiting class drop back to #74 for 2019 when it was #47 the year before?

Our ranking doesn't reflect transfers-- we got OT James Hudson from Michigan in this class. Hudson left Ann Arbor abruptly and many expected him to contend for a starting job in 2019. He is a 4-star recruit.

Another thing that still catapults the AAC over CUSA in all this is how the conference has served as a landing spot for a number of highly ranked transfers from P5 programs. Cincinnati has had several over the past 4 years or so-- I know other schools have had several as well (USF had the 5-star QB from Alabama, SMU has had a number of guys).

Memphis got a 4* DB transfer from Auburn with two years left and immediate eligibility. If offensive output remains steady, an upgrade of defensive talent/depth should help to get the program over the hump for what might be Mike Norvell’s last year.

The first three years of Southern Miss recruiting represent 4-32. The last three years is more normal for us. It’s worth noting we have a smaller recruiting budget than any public AAC school.
