Maybe

But the problem is Miami has Oklahoma aspirations on Wake's effort and budget.

As tempting as it obviously is to him (Cuban, Miami native, alum), I would steer clear.

Babers seems to be off the table. SU has already tucked him away for safe keeping with a rumored $4.5 million salary and a raise for his staff and a HUGE buyout that most schools cant afford. He likes living in Upstate NY and so does his wife. Now I qualify those statements with this: "Anything can happen and I would not be totally shocked if someone ponied up enough money for him to leave Cuse."

Cuse extended Dino a couple weeks ago. Of course, it doesn't mean he can't leave.

I think he realizes he can go down as a legend at Cuse and doesn't have to uproot his family one more time in his late 50's. Cuse looks like it is prepared to go on a long run of excellence.

I can't see Miami coming up with $10 million just to buy out Cristobal.

Rex Ryan supposedly wants it.
Lane Kiffin is an easy pick
Josh Huepel has to be looked at
Neal Brown would be a damn good fit but I can't see the fan base being happy with that pick, not in line with who they see themselves to be.
Be interesting to know the status of Manny Diaz's contract at Temple.

Would Miami go back and hire Butch Davis? He's 67 but coming off 9 wins at FIU.

Josh Huepel has a 10 million dollar buyout. UCF specifically did this because of the Scott Frost fiasco.

Supposedly Diaz has a $4 million buyout.

I feel awful for Temple. Awful for non-majors in general. This is their reality. Relevance is a never-ending coaching search because of games like this. And what’s become of the coaching pool, pecking order, and lifestyle. It makes nomads look stationary.

Time will tell, but, Diaz’s departure probably went over like a fart in church with certain boosters, who were getting tired of Richt’s apparent performance ceiling. And the results of a bowl game, a useless and irrelevant one at that, probably went over the top.

Good for Richt stepping out ahead of this one. He’s being too kind to this place. And, honestly, good that Temple is freed from this bizarre love triangle. Sounds like Diaz and the U are a perfect fit.

So Miami retired Richt. Sounds better than fired but they do kinda sound alike.

Only 58. Bob Stoops retired at age 56. Two guys who's careers took off as salaries exploded retired early.

Out of the 130 FBS jobs only 11 coaches are over 60 and still in the game.

RE: Richt retires
Richt will coach again. He’ll come out of retirement. He’ll do his tour of duty on TV, and he’ll get to pick his next project. He can get control that way, which, he clearly didn’t have at UMFL.

Miami is truly a mess. For the academic reputation they have, the hubris they and their booster pipeline has because of the antics football got away with in the 80’s and 90’s...they look like they should be in the PAC alongside UCLA, USC, or Arizona...a terrible place to work in the most thankless of jobs.

High stress, 60+ hour weeks, boosters who think they own them, and a recruiting season that never ends as they try to entice young kids (most who don't have their priorities in order) to play for their schools, and virtually no family life are the reasons.

I think one of the weaknesses of the P5 is coaching churn and if the big names retire out early that will only speed up the churn.

P5 coaches also will tend to be older than G5 or FCS counterparts because one almost certainly needs to be an HC with a track record to get one of those jobs.

New P5 coaches at 2019 prices with schools on the line for 20-30 million dollar coaching contracts. Programs can easily slip into a hole where they are shut out of 4 star recruiting.

Richt quit because his recruiting went into the toilet. He wasn't going to have athletes going forward.

RE: Richt retires
Miami is not a desire coaching job to get. Too much scandal with all their programs up to 2012. They received gifts from a ponzi scammer which he was busted and the whole Athletic Department and school officials were being investigated about those ill gotten money from that guy. Several big name former head coaches were caught up in the whole ordeal.

In a sense the boosters do own them. The head coaching compensation is so high now that boosters are paying for most or all of the salaries and the buyouts. When the boosters writing the checks say that they didn't want Diaz to leave and it's time for Richt to retire, or that Alford has to be pushed out today instead of at the end of the season, the ADs and school presidents don't push back because the boosters, not the schools, are supplying the money to finance these multi-million dollar transactions.
