Something needs to change for sure. The reaction to playing this years game in the Bay Area has been very "meh" You can get tickets online for like $150, which is 10 times less than they were the year before.

The Semifinals were a complete dud, and 2 out of every 3 years College Football remains unable to find a day for the games to drive TV audience. The New Years Eve idea flopped, and there's no way they are getting the Rose and Sugar Bowl to cede their TV slots.

There may be no way to fix it that doesn't dump the bowl system completely, and that's just never going to happen.

I've never seen good logic for not expanding the playoff. Every major college and professional sport has a much larger playoff...because that's the smart thing to do. The bowl system already hands everyone meaningless trophies and it's the worst system in sports currently IMO.

Keeping it as is would be the equivalent of people wanting to reduce the NCAA tournament to 4 teams and watch Duke play Kentucky every year. Boring for the rest of the country. The NCAA tournament is the best sporting event of the year for the general fan

I love bowl season, it is almost three weeks of a wide variety of football games.

As for the meaning of bowls, i have seen players dump gatorade on their coaches and rush the field in excitement after winning tiny bowls.

Great for players to play in another game, but you can still have more games where more teams are playing for an actual championship

I think it's because it's on the other side of the nation this time. Flight costs are WAY higher than they used to be, as flying out from Clemson & Alabama needs to hit a major airport to then fly out... or you take a road trip to a major airport to save on costs but, "Sigh, don't we have a 65" TV at home being non-hardcore fans?" :)

I agree. If you were to tell people from back in the 90s that there was going to be bowls allowed to most 6-6 teams, including most G5s -- with a lower conference added like the Sun Belt to come along -- and a 4-team invitational playoff nixing the Rose Bowl as exclusive to B1G vs P10 -- they'd make the Same argument people are now (while laughing at you coming back from the future with the ridiculous idea of what we supposedly have right now). :)

12-team Playoff:

The top four teams get a bye, the bottom eight play on December 8 on the home field of the higher seed, Round 2 is on December 15 on the home field of the higher seed, and then we dive into the normal four-team College Football Playoff.

All five P5 conference champs are automatically in, along with G5 champion.

No. 12 Penn State at No. 5 Georgia
No. 11 LSU at No. 6 Ohio State
No. 10 Florida at No. 7 Michigan
No. 9 Washington at No. 8 UCF

Lowest-ranked remaining team at No. 1 Alabama
Next-lowest ranked remaining team at No. 2 Clemson
Next lowest ranked remaining team at No. 3 Notre Dame
Highest-ranked remaining team at No. 4 Oklahoma
