Sun and Redbox Bowl
Its ashame the Pac 12/Rose Bowl wont allow other games to overlap. The Sun Bowl on CBS and the Redbox bowl on Fox would make much more since on New Years Day afternoon versus New Years Eve afternoon.

RE: Sun and Redbox Bowl
None of the CFP bowls, except the early game on NYD, have any other bowl games in the same time slot.

But sure, if it makes you feel better, go ahead and blame a committee of old people in Pasadena for everything you don't like about college football. Blame it all on them. Don't complain about the Sugar Bowl or anyone else in CFB. 07-coffee3

The Rose Bowl doesnt like Big 10 and Pac 12 schools in bowls competing against it. With the 5PM timeslot that makes it impossible for the Sun Bowl to be played at 2PM on 1/1 and the Redbox Bowl to be played at 3 PM on 1/1 since they both have Pac 12 schools.

The Rose Bowl committee got the Pac-12 and Big Ten to agree many years ago to not have any of their teams in bowl games played at the same time as the Rose Bowl Game.

There's nothing stopping any bowl game with teams from other conferences from playing in that time slot, and there's nothing stopping any bowl game from playing in the Sugar Bowl time slot (the Orange and Sugar were both in the NYD evening time slot for a long time) or those Saturday semifinal time slots, or the Friday night time slot used for the 6th CFP bowl game.

Pretty sure the only reason for any of this is that neither the televising network (ESPN or Fox) nor any of the bowl committees sees any benefit in putting a minor bowl opposite one of the top-rated bowls.

RE: Sun and Redbox Bowl
I'm not talking about other bowls. No ESPN bowl will compete with the Rose bowl. The Sun Bowl has a contract with CBS and the Redbox Bowl has a contract with Fox as does the Holiday. I believe It would be on great benefit to the PAC to have more teams playing on New Years Day like the SEC and Big 10. That cannot happen due to these West Coast bowls not being allowed to compete with the Rose. Move the Sun, Redbox, and Holiday Bowls to New Years Day keeping the same times and not only does the holiday become more fun, but the PAC has its #3, #4, and #5 bowl games increase in viewership.

RE: Sun and Redbox Bowl
Could convince the Alamo Bowl to play on NYD. It gets good teams from the Pac-12 and Big 12, and it's in the central time zone so it could be played in the early time slot on NYD. Or maybe the new Pac-12/SEC bowl in Las Vegas after the Raiders stadium opens, though supposedly the Vegas hotel owners don't want a bowl game on NYE or NYD because their hotels are already full for New Year's. Either way they could have a game on NYD that isn't in the Rose Bowl time slot.
