The question then is how much is the minimum a school can spend to compete in each FBS conference. TV money is made but it has to be spent in a lot of these conferences.

Yet the TV deal for the AAC is only 1 or 2 million at best larger than the MWC/CUSA/MAC/SBC. Its going to be hard to find replacement candidates when the AAC gets raided with its coaching costs not supported by TV money.

Houston is at the top for 8.2 million for 2019. Mid range AAC coaching staff is already 5.5 million dollars per year.

There are some CUSA/MAC/SBC programs that can compete with the bottom of the AAC but anyone walking in will have their work cut out to get competitive in it.

Another way to look at is what can be done with the additional 5 million per year spent on the coaching staff.

-An IPF. Three years of that additional 5 million per year cost could cover the cost of building an IPF.

-Endowment for Olympic sports. The average annual return on an endowment is 8 to 12 percent. Let's say that is 10 percent so 5 million per year would give you 500k as a distribution.

If it cost a school 8 million a year to operate its Olympic sports then each year for 5 million dollars you've effectively endowed a sport and saved your budget half a million in the process.
