Next year
So next season is one of those years based on the calendar where we get 14 regular weeks to play 12 games. So everyone will be getting 2 byes....
I wonder if we're going to see this eventually made permanent- no matter what the calendar.

RE: Next year
Believe there was serious talk about this at the last administrators meeting
I don’t see the issue with starting a week earlier in August

Biggest thing would be frankly weather. Already get a lot of games impacted by summer weather delays.

TV outlets probably like spreading the games out over an extra week.
For it to have much value for the teams, though, they'll have to learn to schedule in a way that takes advantage of having two off weeks. Many teams didn't do that for 2019; there are a lot of schedules where the two off weeks are close together (e.g., only two games between the off weeks).

Hurricane season is an issue for sure, but they're no more common in late August than in September. I still don't think that should be reason to artificially limit the number of football weekends.
Seems like more of a "deal with it as they come" issue to me

not really talking hurricanes, although they are an issue. More the thurnderstorm delays that you always see 1st 1-2 weeks of the season.

There are those too.
Still, I think it's worth the delays. More well-rested teams probably increases quality of play.
Plus, it might make fans more likely to turn out in higher numbers as well.
