They add a new nickname, a new market, and a unique school name to D1. Love this.

I would've thought a school named Dixie State would be in the deep south east not Utah.

Too bad the Big West has no interest in bringing back football. An FCS league of, say...

Dixie State (FB only, all other sports WAC)
UC Davis
Cal Poly
Portland State
Sac State (FB, beach volleyball only. other sports WAC)
Northern Arizona (FB only, other sports WAC)

...would solve Dixie State's and Sac State's football problem, enable the WAC to safely cut Chicago State and UMKC loose if they so choose, reduce the Big Sky's travel expenses and give the Big West a presence in the PNW. Everyone wins.

Great news for the WAC. This gives the conference a better defined geographic core, with Dixie State bridging the gaps between and roughly equidistant from CBU in Riverside, GCU in Phoenix and UVU in Orem.

Sacramento State (FB, men's soccer only. other sports WAC)

...would solve Dixie State's and Sac State's problem.

I think this would make terrific sense for all parties.

I'm guessing Dixie State will join the WAC either July of 2020 (as Cal State Bakersfield departs) or July of 2021. Cannot see them moving after this year.

WAC travel partners
UVU - Dixie State
NAU - GCU
Seattle - Sac State
NMSU - UT-RGV
UMKC - Chicago State
Cal Baptist

BW travel partners
Portland State - UCD
Cal State Bakersfield - Cal Poly
UCSB - LBSU
CSUN - UCR
UCI - Cal State Fullerton
UCSD - Hawaii

if only someone was able to pass the idea along to the decision makers....

Good school for the WAC. Able to form rivalries with GCU & UVU. Nearby to SUU & UNLV as well for yearly games.

It makes some sense for football, but why would the other schools want to move basketball and other sports to the WAC?

Looking at the NET or RPI rankings of the conferences in men’s basketball, the WAC is far ahead of the Big Sky.

If not NAU, then perhaps Eastern Washington or UNC. Relax, there's nothing in the works right now. It's merely an idea on a message board.

I came here to ask why the WAC is adding a team in the deep south when it's already a disaster for travel. I see now that it's in Utah. Please continue on with your conversations.

Doesn't the WAC have another DII school with football looking to make the move?

Bingo. In addition, the majority of current WAC schools are located in major cities or metropolitan areas with higher populations.

Places like Phoenix, Seattle, Kansas City and Chicago. Cal Baptist is in Riverside, which is part of the Inland Empire - total combined population of all of Riverside and San Bernadino counties roughly 4 million people. Even UT-RGV can say they have a population of 1 million plus in the Rio Grande Valley.
