Motor City Sadness: Horizon moves tournament to IUPUI’s court

Right where the conference offices are (and validating IUPUI in the process). Good move as the final would always be a sea of empty firetruck red seats.

Add Fort Wayne and you have a lot of fan bases near Indy.

I think this part is more interesting:

Quote:...this March, the opening games will be on campus sites.

The MAC currently does this - byes for the top four teams, bottom eight play on campus. After round one they (along with the women's tourney) are in Cleveland.

Great news for IUPUI. It's a good central location for everyone and hopefully they get good attendance. I'd love to see PUFW get added as #11 in the Horizon.

I’ve always hoped the Horizon would grab Fort Wayne and RMU/USI, the MVC makes a market add with UIC to pair with Murray State, leaving the Horizon with an open spot and no Chicago presence that CSU could swoop in and fill. That would be all-time best case scenario. The school and AD will have to make big leaps before then, but Zorich has the connections to make it possible.

At the HL expansion announcement, Jon LeCrone was just fawning all over IUPUI and the city of Indy. I knew then it was just a matter of time before the League moved the Tourney to Nap Town. Since Indy is close enough, I'll be there.

This appears inevitable with either RMU or Southern Indiana joining Fort Wayne. My preference would be USI as they have baseball while RMU doesn't; the Eagles will have a new basketball arena as well and it would be nice for the HL to get back into Evansville.

Would be best choice in spite of MVC posters clamoring for NKU and dreading an Illinois universities overload. Presidents won't do it though as UIC would become dominant institution from Day 1. On the flip side though, it would provide for an exciting two game weekend for Chicago alumni of ISUr, Bradley and SIU against UIC and Loyola. The move also adds two more baseball programs.

Even if the Valley were to take the Flames, it would take YEARS of winning, stability and academic improvement before the Horizon would even CONSIDER Chicago State, unless they just want to recoup the Chicago market and have Chicago State be the DePaul of the League.

It’s a long way from Chicago to most MEAC schools - that’s nothing new for Chicago State, but that may be too much to swallow for some MEAC schools. The SWAC at least offers schools in the Central Time Zone. I’d only expect either one of them to add Chicago State if they fell below eight members. Most likely, the MEAC and SWAC will shuffle members between each other to keep both conferences alive as long as there is at least 16[/code] members between them.

Better than 12,000 empty seats at Little Caesars Arena.
