One year, there was a six way tie for first place, 2004 or 2005. If they used the pod system then, a team that finished tied for first place would be in the 2nd pod, so conceivably that team could finish with the best record overall by going 4-0, yet instead of the 1st seed, they would be the sixth seed, all because of a ticker and a dumb rule.

03-04 and there were only 5 tied for first place so all 5 would be in pod 1 with a 12-4 record and head to head then other tie breakers seeding the teams. UNCC was one of those teams and the year after was the last year they made the NCAA Tourney. The last year DePaul made then NCAA Tourney and only 2 winning seasons since then. It took UAB 10 seasons to win a NCAA game after that year. It took Cincy 6 years to get back to the NCAA Tourney. Memphis went on to greatness over the next 5 seasons

UAB beat LSU in the '05 tournament (the last season of CUSA 1.0) but, yeah, it's been few and far between since then.

That won’t be a problem for us. Culpepper has been bumped to third. So we’re locked in.

Yeah, it’s but a second-hand emotion.

Looks like CUSA went with naming the Pods (Groups) based on the number of wins that Rice has against each group.
Group 1 (1-4)
Group 2 (2-4)
Group 3 (3-1)

Of course that is as of today (counting our win Saturday), not as of when bonus play started.

So here’s hoping we continue to win in group play and then we’ll maybe try to rename Group 3 each time we win another game...

Seems like many of the schools AND media have used the word "Groups" rather than pods. Most on this board say "Pods". It was explained in the beginning last summer as pods.
