SEC Network vs BTN distribution strategy
I couldn't find online the most recent BTN & SECN distributions per school. I know JRsec has said the SECN is paying out more and gets a higher subscriber fee for states in the conference footprint than the BTN does.

I found it interesting that I recently visited family in the Athens, Ga. area and they had Directv. I found interesting that he received ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, Fox Sports 1, NBC Sports and BTN but no SECN. He told me he had to pay for a higher tier to get the SECN, and I tried it several times and sure enough he doesn't get the SECN but does get the BTN in Athens, Ga.

My understanding is on any basic tier cable or satellite in the conference footprint. This might be how the SECN gets a higher in conference footprint by the satellite company or cable company getting a higher package from the consumer.

Seems like it might be a strategy of the SECN from maximizing revenue versus the BTN receiving revenue but also valuing exposure even while getting a lower rate.

While I'm sure the BTN could do ok in their footprint on a higher tier but the B1G would have had a harder time getting subscriptions in the new big metropolitan cities NYC, NJ area and Baltimore/DC areas on a higher tier because Rutgers/Maryland don't have the rabid following and they knew they would have to stay on the basic tier to maximize revenue. I think I also read the BTN didn't get in state subscribers for some Philadelphia cable companies until they also picked up the NYC/DC/Baltimore areas.

If anyone knows for sure why the difference it would be interesting to hear.

Strange. Here is Charlotte, the SECN is on all Charter/Spectrum packages (even "Select"), whereas BTN is only on the most-expensive package ("Gold").

RE: SEC Network vs BTN distribution strategy
That must be a specific issue with DirecTV. I believe like you said that the Big Ten does value exposure but the SEC doesn't have to worry about exposure... They have ESPN slobbing on the knob giving them all of the premium slot in every sport. The same will be true of the ACC when they launch their Network later this year. I can't knock ESPN for it. They are looking out for their prized assets and are not even a little shy about it.
With ESPN giving all the Exposure the SEC needs the issue becomes maximizing revenue. And to my understanding the SEC Network brings in substantially more revenue and is valued about 4-5 times as much as BTN primarily because of the additional twenty-one cents per subscriber they are bringing in. https://www.google.com/amp/s/articles.al..._the_k.amp
I'm no hater. I'm cool with the SEC and soon the ACC getting their money. There's enough to go around and the B1G will be fine because we crank out graduates like no other and they are all over the country. I'm actually happy that a huge chunk of our rights went over to the Fox conglomerate because now I'm not forcefed heavy SEC rhetoric anymore. Given that I don't watch the Pros... The only time I watch any ESPN programming is when the B1G is playing on it. So if in the next round of negotiations ESPN is out of the picture I would have no reason to watch the world wide leader.
