RE: Why is the College Football Playoff Losing Viewers... STUPID QUESTION!
The CFP is still new. People are still used to a regional mindset, so it's not surprising that there would be parts of the country that won't take an interest in a college national championship.
The question then becomes: what would convince make a college national championship attract national interest similarly to what the professional game has enjoyed.

Because they automatically exclude deserving competitors. Make it at least an 8-team playoff that includes all P5, the G5 champ, and 2 wildcards and you'd have a compelling playoff annually.
Imagine had UCF been included in the picture in 2018... especially with everyone in love with one-handed superstar linebacker Shaquiem Griffen flying all over the field dominating, most of the country would have tuned in to root for the underdog, ala NCAA Basketball Tourney.

If the playoff has taught us anything in the last couple years it's that the college football universe is Bama/Clemson and everyone else.
The only thing adding UCF would have done a couple years ago is added yet another team to get their a$$ handed to them by the big 2.
No one wants to watch a slaughter.
No one wants to watch the same two teams every year.
What can be done about it? Not much.

that UCF team went undefeated and kicked Auburn's ass in the bowl game, the same Auburn that beat Alabama. The whole country would have tuned in for that one.

I would have been waaaay more excited for that than another Bama v Clemson game. There would have been a legitimate underdog to root for... One with more that a fighting chance.

Kicked the ass of an Auburn team who frankly had no interest in being there.
Sure, the whole country would have tuned in...... Until midway thru the second quarter and they realized Bama was stomping a mudhole in UCF.

If you want to make it compelling as the NFL playoffs you need to make it a real playoff like the NFL has. Do away with the post-season exhibition season known as bowl games(which I have almost completely stopped watching except for the two teams in my state) and get to a real playoff. Quit using baloney excuses that it cant be done every other level does it.
I don't care if you could incorporate conference playoffs and get to a final number. Obviously if we had 4 P4 leagues thats easier but if you want to keep it smaller maybe we give 5 P5 bids only to conference game champs and a 6th one to the G5 champ. I don't like a number of 6 but I don't like playoff committees and favored teams getting favored in the selection process.

That's the assumption though. The reality is that we don't know what would have happened because the NCAA brass never were willing to expose themselves to the possibility of a G5 team winning the national title through a fair process.

If you really want to get to an 8 team playoff, you have to get rid of the conference championship games.
They are the roadblock, and the only conference that has made them successful has been the SEC
Get rid of divisions, crown a champ, and have that team play the ACC or Big XII champ on that weekend designed for conf champs
On that weekend, would you rather play a conference champ game, or a quarterfinal game?

again, that's an assumption but the reality is that we'll never know because the opportunity was never granted, hence why UCF has their claim to the national title.

You have to get rid of CCG's as long as we have an odd number of Power leagues. CCG's and even conference semi-final games work great if we have 4 power leagues.
But in the current setup I agree the CCG's are bad because the networks try to sell them almost as a playin round to the playoffs but we know many of the teams in the CCG's are not going to the playoffs even if they win, thus the game becomes just another staged network event or another post-season exhibition game. Post-season exhibition games are what ruin the sport of college football. Both the CCG's and bowls fall into this category.
