Who should be there instead of the "same teams" but isn't?
How about the 5 and 6 loss teams that catapult to preseason top 25 just based of their name......

At least another G5 team. There's always 2 or 3 that finish Top 25 so not sure why Central Florida is the only one.
Also swap Michigan St off. 6 losses not Top 20

Fields is starting.
I was going to say, Fields is starting and Hoak still hasn't had his black stripe removed so he is way down on the depth chart.

Is Nebraska only ranked because they used to be good or do they actually have a good team this year?

It's a simple question.

Does it bother you when Duke and Kentucky and Michigan State are ranked high every year in college hoops too? If so, you just must not like Division I hoops and football.
You'd have a point if it was true that these polls were wildly off, but they usually aren't. If other teams want to get ranked, they have to get better.
I'm not just into the same old teams being up there... Not saying they are not the best, because they are...

Sorry, what I was trying to say was Nebraska, Iowa state, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Auburn, and Utah have no business being there for the preseason...... period. You finish the season with 5-6 losses, I do not care what type of name hype or recruiting hype you have, its all smoke and mirrors until something is proved on the field.

The same could be said of Florida. Are the Gators truly the #8 team in the country?
In fairness, I think aggy and UCF are ranked to high. Aggy hasn't won anything in years with all the money in the world and UCF lost their starting QB.

Nebraska:
-finished strong last year
-has a great quarterback
-has a coach who pulled off a year 2 miracle at UCF
-has recruited well
-has a favorable schedule.
That being said, I have no idea what to expect. The Big 10 West will be a blood bath. 6 of the 7 teams have a legit shot of winning the division. I heard a Las Vegas expert on the radio say that is the most wide open division this year. Vegas is putting Nebraska's over/under at 8.5 wins.
Who knows what'll happen? I think most Nebraska fans will be happy with improvement: better discipline with penalties, turnovers, and special teams.

I read the tweet above backwards, that UW had a UGA starter and OSU had a UGA backup. Reading it that way confirmed something I read on a UGA site yesterday that Fields was #2. But obviously I read the tweet above wrong. I presume you OSU fans know better what is going on than the UGA site.

The tweet might have been worded that way because Petersen hasn't named a UW starting QB yet.

Iowa St. is there for good reason. They were 8-5 which gets you close to #25. All 5 losses were close, 4 were to ranked teams and 3 of those were top 10. They've got a lot of people back.

I won’t be a homer here. The gators are ranked too high. First and foremost, I am not sold on FF as our QB. However, our offense sure is clicking much better under Mullen. If we have an equal improvement over last year, I think we challenge Georgia in the east. So pretty easy to see them in the top ten, just not yet. I don’t believe in preseason rankings based on hype.
As far as UCF, I think a lot of people are gonna be surprised. Their offense does seem to make all QBs shine.Mack sure did a great job as a stand in for Milton, won the AAC championship game, and lost by one score to LSU. Sure, LSU was missing a lot of people, but they are three deep 4 star players and UCF wasn’t playing with MM. UCF has a lot of weapons coming back, and its not hard to imagine another QB such as Wimbush, who is a ND transfer with plenty of experience thrive in this system. If true freshman Dillon Gabriel takes the field, a lot of people are comparing him to an upgraded Milton, Georgia and USC made a heavy late push to try to sign him.

It’s all about TV dollars
Remember after 5 weeks there’s a committee there to make sure of the TV money is being used wisely
Northwestern: 15-1 in last 16 B1G regular season games = Not Ranked
Nebraska: 10 game losing streak snapped last October en route to 4-8 = Ranked

I agree with this - at this point, the polls are purely speculative, because we haven't played any games. So take them for what they are worth at this point, just out there to stir interest and conversation, like this thread.
Right now, everyone is 0-0.
