"New Hampshire's McDonnell takes medical leave"
"New Hampshire football will begin the 2019 season without the person who has been synonymous with the program for the past 20 years: head coach Sean McDonnell.

McDonnell, 62, has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the team for health-related reasons, UNH athletic director Marty Scarano announced Monday night.

Associate head coach Ricky Santos, who starred as a quarterback under McDonnell, was named the interim head coach. The Wildcats, who finished 4-7 last year, kick off the season Sept. 7 at Holy Cross."

Wow, that's very rough. Hopefully he will be okay, but certainly doesn't sound good in terms of his career. If this is the end of his career, he's had a really great one and one of the most consistently winning coaches in FCS if not for all of college football.
For UNH fans, it certainly will be a blow to their season. I remember Santos when he played QB at UNH and was one of the great ones there. To be an assistant coach, he's gotta have the trust of McDonnell to run this program.

RE: "New Hampshire's McDonnell takes medical leave"
I’ve said on a # of occsions 2004-2017 that thought McDonnell was the best HC in the CAA because he did the mostest with the leastest.
-Hardly took any transfers.
-Not many 2-3 star recruits.
-Until 2016 terrible facilities, amongst the worst, if not the worst in the CAA.
Yet 14 straight playoff appearances. Granted never made the NC game. Did make 2 semis. If he had been the HC at JMU during the same period, think JMU would have had a couple more NCs..

Hope he is able to recover from whatever his health issue is.

McDonnell overachieved in every way. He overcame so many obstacles. I'm praying he overcomes this one.

McDonnell is one of the good things about the CAA. I hope and pray he licks whatever his health issues might be.

I wish him a full recovery. I'm sure it's not his personality, but I always picture McDonnell as a crusty old-timer like Mickey from Rocky. Especially the really cool words of wisdom.
