Not a bad night for the Democrat.

You obviously don't understand what the term "moral victory" means.

But again turnout in the 'bigger cities' just does in the Democrats. Time and time again, they can't get enough big city voters (big city in this case is a bit of a stretch) to turn out. Meanwhile, the rural areas pull thru for Trump again. Dems have to get that fixed before November, 2020. And I still don't think Warren will be the person to do that.
Can any locals tell me if District 9 is a big farm area? If so, what types of crops? I still think the corn and soy farmers are mad at Trump and that could make a big difference in Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Ohio and PA. Other crops may not be affected by the tariffs as much.
The more easterly parts of 9 are big farming locations. I'm in 3, but I'm a secondary operator on a 4th generation family farm. We contract to one of the largest farms in the state whose primary crops are cor and soybeans. Yes farmers are upset at Trump regarding the tariffs and Chinese response. NO, they are not upset enough to vote for a democrat that is perfectly happy with the (pre-Trump) status quo with regards to trade. Look at commodity prices in the 70s compared to today. I also included yield info but unfortunately its over a different time period so it isn't a direct correlation.

For farmers costs are going up at an astronomical rate, and while yields are increasing, prices are essentially flat over the past 40 years. It's nearly impossible to survive on an average year. Throw in a hurricane or 2 month drought (we had both this year) and you are automatically in the hole for the next 2-3 years. Crop insurance barely covers inputs (seed/fertilizer) while equipment, maintenance, overhead, and labor are all on the farmer or in most cases creditor to cover.
Farmers know they can't maintain like they have the past 40 years. There's a lot of pain right now, but farmers play the long game. They know that more equitable trade deals are beneficial.
Sounds about the same as shrimp down here on the Gulf. Their price hasn't changed in over 40 years. I can go to a grocery store and get jumbo shrimp (16-20 count/lb) for $6.00/lb at retail. Can go to the dock and get U10s (fewer than 10/lb) for $5/lb.
Shrimpers have been getting less than $2/lb since the 1970s at the wholesalers.
Funny you bring up shrimping. It's largely the same here on the coast of NC. I hold a commercial fishing license and have a 27' boat rigged with 16X12 skimmers. This is the first year I haven't shrimped in over 10 years since my dock is still tore up from Florence last year. Wholesale prices have been flat for decades here as well. I rarely sell to to a fishhouse unless I'm too busy to head inland to sell or I'm out of storage. I usually run to Greenville during the week and on Saturdays to sell 26-30s for anywhere from $4 to $7/lb. Raleigh brings close to $10/lb and it can get close to $20/lb for fresh, never frozen shrimp.
I shrimp the sounds close to home and on good nights can bring in 50-60 pounds every 30 minutes. For the past few years there have been attempts to end inshore shrimping due to concerns from the recreational fishermen and the CCA. Thankfully they haven't been successful. My license is $600/yr, plus another $200 for my license to sell. A recreational license that allows for a 16' trawl and supposedly limits catch to one 55 qt cooler a night only cost $40. ONLY commercial shrimping has been threatened, while leaving recreational untouched.
