Every move he has made so far has been a step up. He has stated that Notre Dame is his dream job (he is a devout Catholic raised in neighboring Ohio). Could he be sending a (not so) subtle message to those Irish boosters who are less than enamored with being led by Brian Kelly? If Kelly were to stumble and those boosters were confident they could land Meyer, would that heat up that coaching seat a little sooner than it otherwise might?
He turned down ND in 2004 and he made the AD and the school president fly to Utah to turn them down in a very public way.
Urban listed a number of demands on ND as a condition for him taking the job, including allowing a number of JUCO's (which ND doesn't have) and marginal academic players.
This, when he already had a Florida offer and was going to take it anyway. ND said no and he said no.
That bridge burned down in 2004.
Sure, Urban is Catholic, is from Ohio and was a ND assistant coach under Lou Holtz and Bob Davie.
But, ND is not really his "dream job". That has always been bull****.
He isn't really interested in the ND job and ND is not likely to have interest in him after his ethical troubles at Florida and Ohio State.
Any talk of Urban and ND is fantasy at this point. Never gonna happen.
I still think he will be Southern Cal's coach on 12/1.
