I think you are right TerryD. Especially now in some ways with that young QB they have quite frankly...

Oh and if it happens..... I just looked and they open the 2020 season with a game vs...... Alabama- in Jerry World.....

How incredible would that be.....

Would be the first head to head matchup between Saban and Meyer since the 2009 SEC championship game.

Meyer beat Saban the year TCU would've boatraced both.

RE: Urban Meyer inching towards taking another coaching job
I don't think he's coming back to coaching for at least a year or two.

And I certainly don't think when he does return it will be at USC for three reasons:

1. That entire athletic department is a dumpster fire at this point. Between the admissions scandal and the instability at the AD position it's not a situation that's conducive for success.

2. Unlike Gainesville and Columbus he's never going to be the big man in town in Los Angeles.

and

3. With just recently coming off probation for violations in the football program and the ongoing admissions scandal would USC really willingly invite the kind of scrutiny they would get by hiring Meyer? He's so far been able to avoid trouble with the NCAA but he's got enough baggage that a school struggling with a dirty image would have to be foolish to hire him.

Ohio State hired Meyer right after being on NCAA probation -- hired him a few weeks after finishing the season in which the Buckeyes were barred from bowl games.

If USC's big boosters want Meyer, they won't let the 15-year-old Reggie Bush scandal keep them from going after Meyer.

Meyer's dirtbag ways didn't get a lot of attention before the Aaron Hernandez murder investigation in the summer of 2012 and his earlier transgressions in Gainesville became public. He was hired by Ohio State in November of 2011.

RE: Urban Meyer inching towards taking another coaching job
I don't think Meyer is in any great hurry to get back on the sidelines. I agree the job would have to be something special to him. And I don't think jobs like FSU meet that criterion.

Every move he has made so far has been a step up. He has stated that Notre Dame is his dream job (he is a devout Catholic raised in neighboring Ohio). Could he be sending a (not so) subtle message to those Irish boosters who are less than enamored with being led by Brian Kelly? If Kelly were to stumble and those boosters were confident they could land Meyer, would that heat up that coaching seat a little sooner than it otherwise might?

It was not over Leach. It was over Greg Schiano who got Rutgers rolling.

DNB is correct. Leach was interviewed for UTK's in order to make it appear as though an actual coaching search was being conducted. But Jimmy Haslam, a prominent Tennessee booster and owner of the Cleveland Browns had already made up his mind who the next Vols coach was going to be. Haslam leaned on the AD heavily to hire Schiano, who had previously interviewed as a potential Browns coach and left a positive impression upon Jimmy.

Now, no one in Knoxville was happy about the potential Schiano hire which was exacerbated by the fact that the AD was just a pawn of Haslam and representative of the general dysfunction on Rocky Top for the last 10 years. A rival donor base in Knoxville felt that this was the perfect opportunity to diminish Haslam's influence in the program. It is at is at this point IMO, that the new coaching decision is leaked to Clay Travis.

Now I really don't get too worked up over media personalities, but what Travis did in this instance was detestable. To say Travis led a fan revolt would be a stretch as no one would have been happy with Schaino, but linking the reason for Greg's unsuitability to his time at Penn St and the Jerry Sandusky era was the very definition of muckraking.

Regardless, the rival donors goals have been achieved as Haslam is marginalized and his puppet AD removed. Unfortunately, by utilizing a populist uprising to achieve their goals, only someone with significant cache to the fanbase would quell the flames. Which is the opportunity that Phil Fulmer has been waiting for since is ouster back in 2008.

USC fans chanting "Hire Urban" during the pregame Friday night, while Meyer was on the field as part of the pregame show.

And then USC beats Utah.... They have a tough schedule- but if they can go 9-3 or better- going to be really tough to remove Helton.

He turned down ND in 2004 and he made the AD and the school president fly to Utah to turn them down in a very public way.

Urban listed a number of demands on ND as a condition for him taking the job, including allowing a number of JUCO's (which ND doesn't have) and marginal academic players.

This, when he already had a Florida offer and was going to take it anyway. ND said no and he said no.

That bridge burned down in 2004.

Sure, Urban is Catholic, is from Ohio and was a ND assistant coach under Lou Holtz and Bob Davie.

But, ND is not really his "dream job". That has always been bull****.

He isn't really interested in the ND job and ND is not likely to have interest in him after his ethical troubles at Florida and Ohio State.

Any talk of Urban and ND is fantasy at this point. Never gonna happen.

I still think he will be Southern Cal's coach on 12/1.
