France and Germany agree to block Facebook's Libra
Quote:PARIS (Reuters) - France and Germany have agreed to block Facebook’s Libra cryptocurrency, the French finance ministry said on Friday.

In a joint statement, the two governments affirmed that “no private entity can claim monetary power, which is inherent to the sovereignty of nations”.

French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said on Thursday that Facebook’s new cryptocurrency should not be allowed to operate in Europe while concerns persist about sovereignty and persistent financial risks.

I only did it to monitor my daughter in her teens...

you can easily imagine how many times I 'didnt accept a friend', and was asked "why"...

"b/c facecrap is the antichrist, that's why."

this board is not only entertaining enough, but I can only get banned w/o worries 'mate'... 03-wink

I deleted account almost a year ago, best thing I have done in a long time. This is my only social media.

I don't do the Facebook because I don't seek shallow validation of my food and entertainment choices and don't need anyone to tell me my daughter is "so cute".

Wow. I'm sort of shocked.

I don't think anyone can really stop a private currency. No one has stopped Bitcoin.

I liked the idea of Libra because it would have killed Bitcoin by taking away all the legitimate demand for it. The social evils of Facebook aside, they're nothing compared to the social evils of an untraceable private currency. Bitcoin is facilitating drug smuggling & child trafficking rings, and it's funded by idiots who think it's an investment in the Next Big Thing or who think it's less costly than using the currency exchange at the airport.
