Awesome win! How many times have we beaten #1 ranked team in the NCAA? Can't be many.

Curt Dudley said after the goal that the Dukes beat #1 UNC with a PK in 2012

Hopefully this is the start of an upswing this season. After losing to a bad FAU team and a decent FIU team...we had only beaten Hofstra, squeaked by a bad Loyola MD team in 2OT, and trounced Elon. A win over WF is HUGE. We have a lot of must win games left this season, and then some games that could help get us an at-large in case we don't win the conference: CS Fullerton, @Nova, @UVA, and @PennSt. No one else we play is in the top 100.

That’s freaking awesome! Almost as good as some of these names.

I knew about this game but forgot, wish I had tuned in here earlier, doggone it.

Hope they can stay healthy and carry this MO forward. Signature win!

Caught the second half. Great win for the lads. WF kept pressing to try and get a score but the Dukes held fast. Got to keep the momentum going now.

RE: #1 Wake Forest at JMU Tuesday at 7 PM in Men's Soccer:
Well I guess that is why they play the games.

This is the thing I look for coaches and players that provide me comfort and confidence.

I like coaches and players that elevate their games in big games.

While Lou Rowe, may not have had great teams, I thought early on his team was a little better in the Conference tournament. At this point I'm not so sure his teams are any better or worse with the big or not so big games.

Campanelli, Houston, Matthews, & Moorman's teams rose to the occasion and did not look worse than expected in big games. Their teams won Huge games, and even in losses they looked prepared.

Now Matthews lost some close big games versus ASU, YSU, and NDSU - but in all those games they were road dogs, and the team came to play - they just lost close ones. Also towards the end of his tenure Matthews did not have the talent or QB to compete so there were few big games the last 5 years, with the exception of the two ODU loses, that once again were close.

Of late we have a handful of those type coaches that can win the big game.

Klaes-Bawcombe - Lacrosse
LaPorte - while her team was over matched versus UCLA, they rose to the occassion at Michigan
Zazenski - two years now his teams have excelled in big games.

Other current coaches

As far as football I'm not sure there are any what I would consider "big" regular season games left on the schedule. WVU was a big game we gave away the second half. The playoffs will begin to answer big game coach in my opinion.

Lou Rowe - the team is so bad, there have not been any big games they really had a chance in.

Sean O'Regan - I know this will piss people off, but Sean's teams have played worse than expected in big games - reference recent OOC and CAA Tournament games. Yes his team did win it's argueably biggest game played last year in beating Kenny Brooks, but that game was only played due to lack of success in OOC play, and the third straight season not winning the CAA tournament.

Baseball - not really close enough to have a big games. Had some close games against ranked teams, but did not win......

I know some people hate "policing", but I think if you want to open a conversation on evaluating all of our coaches across sports, it'd be worth a new thread. I don't feel like derailing a great soccer thread so I can list my opinion on coaches from other sports.

Zazenski appears to have been an amazing find. We'll see how the rest of the season goes. I don't pay enough attention to soccer to understand why we didn't seem to perform well in the florida tournament, but I do know we lost a few starters from last year, so maybe it was just working out the kinks.

I thought it was a soft penalty, but it should have been a penalty. The defender is responsible for his body positioning, and he clumsily clattered into the WF player's body. The WF player definitely sold it, but that's what you do. Great save by Bush, though. He absolutely smothered that penalty. Hope the defender buys him dinner tonight for that!

Caught the game last night with about 15mins left on the clock. Great effort to secure the W, including very solid play by the keeper.

It’s always special to see a takedown of #1

Noticed a few guys going down with what looked like minor injuries and being subbed out. Anyone know injury status? Anything significant that will impact the team?

It has been brutally hot down here in S Florida (stil is). Summer heat is lasting longer than normal so perhaps the heat was a factor.

I heard there was no coverage of our huge win in the Richmond Times Disgrace. Anyone see a story? Or were they too busy covering a Randolph Macon cross country meet?

Wasn't even a blurb in the Washington Post this morning although they did make mention of games by the Hoos and the Chokies. fairly typical for the Post. I do not think they believe the Dukes exist.

The game ended pretty late, may have missed the deadline. Let's see if it's there in the morning.
