I've actually heard Boone is a great college town, and I love the Western North Carolina mountains. I'd go for a game now and then.

But the American isn't a college town type of conference, and App State isn't an AAC type of school. Every year when a non-AAC G5 school puts together a decent season in football, the calls to add them to the league are countless. Folks need to chill when a Sun Belt school starts 4-0. God, how many folks are die hard about adding Buffalo after a couple of decent athletic seasons. Basketball is doomed without Oats and that football stadium wouldn't pass for a high school venue in some states. They win a MAC title and suddenly they're tops of everyone's list.

Boise is losing to Wyoming and probably Utah St.
SDSU may skim by for a while, but there are a couple L's laying around for them.

4-5 ranked teams going into the cfp rankings means it will take a catastrophic series of related losses to knock the AAC out of being favored and SDSU or Boise winning out. Either seems unlikely, but both occurring would be remarkable.

Quo Vadis is probably one of the most deeply anti-AAC posters on this forum, and even he calculated (after Georgia Southern’s victory last night) that the AAC champion has about “a 97% chance” of getting into the Access Bowl.

The MWC Champion isn’t totally out of it, but a long list of things would have to happen just right for them to get it.
