Quote: When is the influence of preseason ratings removed from the system?
As of 2018, it is 73 days from the date of the first game. This ends up being sometime around January 20th. However, the influence of the preseason ratings is gradually reduced between the first week of the season and this point, so that the influence of the preseason ratings is minimal in mid-January.

The Jimmy Chin system says that bias is removed from the system only when the Coogs are ranked higher.

Makes perfect sense - - that would be the reason why the Massey Composite rankings above are out of synch with those for Houston and SMU. two examples illustrate the impact that a good win can have on rankings.

Astonishing how quickly Houston has moved up in the rankings. It appears possible that the AAC could have 3 top 25 teams within the next few weeks.

Actually, I think it's 106 rankings. Whatever the number, that's the most legit ranking, IMO.

Actually now that most of the injured players are back they are not that bad. Mind you now we are not paying players or none of that crap, but the players that are there are not too bad.

Pounding inferior opponents tends to improve NET standing. It is an an unfortunate incentive potentially harming good sportsmanship.

Addendum: I do not think Memphis displayed poor sportsmanship yesterday. No one played over 25 minutes and we backed off our most effective press.

Wow, San Diego St. ranked #1? That's not something you see very often.

If the NET rewards teams by margin of victory, then we must crush our opponents without mercy. Tulane is on deck 05-mafia

The margin of victory is capped at 10 so your point is moot.

Tennessee has dropped all the way down to 72. 3 more spots and they move out of Q2 for Cincy. That would leave them with 0-3 vs Q1 and Q2 for the non con.

Also would move to Q2 for Memphis.

The margin of victory is capped at 10, but the second highest weighted component is “NET Efficiency”. Upon examination of the elements comprising “NET Efficiency”, the reader can see it is highly sensitive to blowouts.

Only one part of the formula caps the margin of victory. The unadjusted off/def portion effectively is an uncapped margin of victory metric. It’s why teams make big moves after blowout results.
